Need help!......carb problem?
#1
Took 02 Baja out for the first time today since I bought it a few weeks ago.
Here's the problem:
If I am not "in the throttle" at about 3-4k rpm, it sputters.......sounds almost like it does when you hot rev limiter?
Now when I really get into throttle, it gets past the sputter an runs awesome!
Any ideas? My buddy and I were thinking dirt in the carb?
Stock carb, but jetted........HMF pipe. Don't know what size jet was used, but elevation in Indiana where I bought it should be similar to St. Louis.
BTW.........I love the quad! Suspension soaks up all the moguls and when you are in the throttle, it flies!
Not to hard to wheelie either......of course not as easy as the 350X.......LOL
Any ideas would be appreciated!

So I take it that the bike ran great before this particular outing...???>>>???
If so, then it sounds like Jmac might have hit the nail. If that still doesn't get it, check your air filter and then your fuel. also check your intake boot. Cracks in the boot can do very weird things at different RPMs.
Check back with us to let us know how it's going.

if you bought the bike used and have not tore into the carb yet i reccomend a complete tear down. dont waste your time trying to find a little error in the carb when a teardown is just as quick. you can tear it off and thoroughly clean it in a hour and a half. you should inspect your floats, jets, and whole interior of the carb. after re-installing it make sur you set your air/fuel screw(search pryor posts if you dont know how). you may be surprised what you find in you carb. when i did my fuel system during my teardown not only was i surprised at the amount of sediment in the carb but in the tank also. i took that off too and flushed it with gas. there is also a little screen on the petcock valve on the tank that gets clogged. and lastly if you do the tank make sure you dont pinch off the breather tube during installation. i am a maintnance freak
