Hey guys ive been trying to get packing for my canister and everyplace is outof it right now. Ii need something to put in there to quiet her down she is getting VERY loud and its starting to hurt my ears. Ive heard of this before what do you guys think? i dont think there can be any harm done by trying it???

 

I would think it would rust out real quick, and we know what rust can look like Sand

 

Well, that too, but I would think the steel wool would transfer the heat to the outside of the silencer. Which, probably wouldnt be a big deal. But like Dunnycat said between the heating up and cooling down the moisture from the engine etc. the steel wool would last very long, unless you could find some stainless.

Well i dont need it for very long but i guess ill just leave it how it is till i get some packing

 

i bought my packing a couple of days ago from the local dealer fits perfect, it is fmf fourstroke packing #010590 it cost me $9.95 dennis kirk has it but different number, this stuff is 15 inches wide and i wrapped it around my tube inside put wire around the packing in 3 different spots to help me slid it in and it worked great, you can get it here check the link, i called and they said shipping was like 8 dollars

you'd be better off repacking with fiber glass cloth than steel wool

Well i found a package of FMF packing at a local dealer FINALY...its the white cotton type looking stuff thats like a mat if just wraped it around the baffle and then i packed it into the canister and its good now.

 

thats what mine was white cotton looking I didnt need to cut it or anything fit perfect, did you have to cut yours?

 

No i never had to cut mine. Perfect length, perfect fit, and everything seemed to work very well.
