In California it's the law regardless if you are off road or not unless you are on privet property.

National forest service requires it as well as any land held by the BLM which pretty much covers everything......

Im for every one having the choice, its your head. but I do see the other side if you crack that melon and become a veggie the state/ tax payers will be paying for you. so it end up being one of those deals. but I gess thats what we pay taxes for now.

I wear mine 99.9 percent of the time. i agree it is your choice though. if you choose to smash your melon to bits that your call. this is a good thread. maybe it will remind some guys of that helmet in the garage collecting dust. my opinion is this alone....... ride hard, ride fast, and since you do it as safe as possible you can watch your kids grow up to do the same.

I think Louisiana and Florida are the worst offenders. It seems to be a right of birth to be dumb. My friends laugh at me with a helmet, but it has saved me plenty. It's like the boots. Once you get used to them you feel naked without the protection. My friends get smacked in the head all the time from branches. We've had case after another where the rider crashed and had no helmet and had head trauma or death by head trauma. They were just riding. Not any different from us. S happens and usally really fast!
Some web sites and all magazines won't print irresponsible photos without helmets. I'm surprised this one does. You can't show a fat lady farting but you can show poeple racing around with no helmet.

I always wear a helmet so that I don't look stupid . Seriously, ... when I see someone riding without a helmet the very first thing I think is "man, that guy is STUPID". So I figure if I'm wearing a helmet, then someone else wont be thinking I'm stupid.

I should also mention that a helmet has saved my life at least three times in the last 20 years. You know it was a bad crash, even if you cant remember it, when you were knocked out while wearing a helmet, and the helmet is broken and needs to be replaced. Easier to replace a helmet than it is to replace your brain.

I were my helmet whenever i am goin out riding with someone where i know times of sanity are not around But if im gonna go put put at 20mph from the house to the barn to feed the horses I aint wearin it, If i am goin out to put put around the fence line and check the herd, prolly not wearin it. But i believe for myself I do and always will wear my helmet 100% of the time i am around other people. Plus crashins fun and i aint never crashed without it so i gotta wear it But like Sandbomber stated above. It is my choice to put my brain bucket on. Not yours, Not the Governments.

people are so hung up on --- its my head and my choice but really its not and you sound pretty ignorant..

sorry to say that but ---there alot of factors...your parents, kids, wife, brothers, not to mention yourself and the state who will be picking up your

up the disability price for ever and putting the burden on everyone else because you are so cool and want to be able to ride without

one..

just doesnt make sense--yes you have a choice in some states but that doesnt make it right...why risk being a drooling, paralized veg

for the 2 seconds it takes to put one on..its not about you

I agree with chirochris... Also think of the bad publicity our sport already get's...then to have some one get killed because they're not wearing a helmet...The fact they weren't wearing a helmet is hardly ever mentioned, only that they were killed while riding an ATV. This is the kind of thing that get's riding area's closed....
I for one will always wear a helmet, even when riding at 5 mph with my daughter... you have to lead by example. I also want to be able to pick her up...go to her graduation, wedding, be around for my grandchildren, etc.

I think Sam got it right about the $$$$$ issue. Head trauma patients can be on life support for years or life and the state/government ends up paying for it.

I am all for having choices and I hate hearing about choices being stripped away from us.

So should the Emergency Medical Service have the choice not to treat you if you are not wearing a helmet?

Up until you crash, then you make it EVERY atv'rs business. the media gets ahold of your wreck, blows it out of proportion, then the lawmakers here about it, decide atv's are dangerous, and then try to form a bill to outlaw atv's

i know this sounds far fetched, but why do you think lawmakers have formed safety committees for ATV's most of the injuries that occur on atv's do so due to rider not following laws, like HELMET, a second person on the back, too young for a sport atv.......etc

so in a round about way, when you don't wear a helmet, and i see you riding around, i will stop you and tell you to put a helmet on, or call the cops!!! have a nice 500 dollar fine in California!!!!
