2000 ds engine noise question
I have a 2000 ds 650 and it seems to make more noise than I feel it should. Its like a chatter noise not a knocking. Hard to try and explain but I know that it is in the motor not just one spot either, the sound is every where. Not real loud but I can tell that its there. I brought it to a local mechanic to look at and he said that these were known for this and that it was normal. Just thought that Id see if any one has the same noise and if I should just ignore it or try taking it some where else?

Cam chain tentioner might have locked up. Check it out, see if it is collapsed. The ds should purr. Sometimes you can pull it out and pump the tenstoiner and when it opens back up put it back in to see if the noise goes away. That might diagnose. the noise... If that fixes it I would recomend getting a new tentioner from Ron wood.

Thanks for the fast reply. I took the large nut off on the left side rear of the motor, and a piece about 2 1/2 inches came out. what do you mean by pump it. there is no spring in it what so ever should there be? Its like it is one solid piece and it dont move. thanks

2000 ds engine noise question
Well I was reading somewhere else to push the ball bearing in the center in and then pump it. I did this and it did pump back and forth. I then put it back in and started it up. The noise was really bad now. I turned it off right away and pulled it back out. The thing is now locked closed and cant get it to open back up. I will order a new one right away. But do you all think this was the problem in the first place or did I wreck it when it was good. Is there a way to get it apart again? That would be great if this does fix the noise. When I started it for that couple of seconds do you think the chain jumped teeth at all? Or should I not worry about it and just put the new one in and start it again.
