Anyone have any idea where I can get a good aluminum rear 42T rear sprocket. I'm currently running 14/40 gearing right now with 22" Haulers for sand and was thinking about going to 15/42 with the lighter rear..gearing is nearly identical and I can then save alittle rotating mass with the aluminum rear?

Any pros or cons to running a rear aluminum?

 

woods has a 42 rear, sprocket speacilist has a better one for a few bucks more

 

I tried running a renthal aluminum unit on my raptor, thing was chewed up after a couple of sessions of ice practice. I dont mind sacraficing for speed, but this is just not a worthy tradeoff IME. Picked up a new 42 tooth steel renthal the next day. Used that the rest of the season and it still looks great.

 

I ran a aluminum sprocket for one season. its toast. I will not run one again.

 

If you ride often, the aluminum rear will last about one riding season. More or less depending on other conditions. If your rear bearings are worn, and there is quite a bit of play in the carrier, you'll only get a 6 rides off of the aluminum sprocket.

I've never ran an aluminum sprocket on my atv but I did run them on my dirt bikes. The only reason I did that was because I had a cheap place to get them. After the shop I was using closed I went back to steel sprockets because the aluminum just didn't last. You really won't save much wieght, maybe a pound? I know with aluminum sprockets it a good idea to change your chain if it shows any sign of wear or it will wear down the new sprocket fatser.

 

If your worried about weight but want strength go with Stainless Steel or Titanium. You can get them at Sidewinders or maybe Rocky Mtn.
