You have to remove the entire axle. I see you have an 05 model so you have a long time to wory abought it. I have an 01 and put several hard hard years on it before I noticed the axle getting warm after riding so I replaced the bearings and grease at that point. The grease is packed between the bearings and is tecnicly greased for the life of the bearings. Some people dismantle the axle to grease and inspect the bearings on a regular bassis but I figure it isent worth the efort till I see a reason to do so and that has only happend once in 4 years of severe abuse and routine watter crossings.

hey pitviper how come you have a 175 main jet? I am running the 170 and thinking of going to a 175 what is the best way to tell if it is too big other than a plug chop?

A 175 jet came in the kit from on-dunes performance! The kit contains a 175 jet, k&n filter and prefilter plus the exhaust tip

jets also vary with elevation. I am in Florida and run a 180 with my end cap and ported intake. The plug is a perfect tan/brown color which tells me I am on the mark.

I would agree that an 05 should not have to worry but what could have sparked his interest is all the talk about the recall of the 01's thru 04's that has been mentioned on several threads this last week. If you do a search on the net under "Bombardier Axle bearings" you will find page after page of recall information but none is talking about the 05 model year.

Nevertheless I will be doing mine this weekend and will continue to do it each year....Preventative maintenance is better then waiting for something to go wrong...

why take the chance on having to replace a axle or carrier when you can just grease them for pennies plus time. or be stranded.

There is a recall on the 05 model. A friend of mine just got his notice but it was only 4 months after he locked up his axel due to improper assembly

You are right ! I stand corrected.

Model year 2004 and 2005 Bombardier DS650 ATVs under model numbers 0003A5A00, 0003A5B00, 0003B5A00, 0003B5B00, 000799700, 000799500, 000771900, and 000771700 are part of this recall. The ATV model number identification decal is located on the right side of the frame, in front of the engine.

Sorry for the miss information.....

Just got mine back from the recall this afternoon. I've only used my DS 3 weekends since I've bought it and they had to put a new bearing in it from just that little amount of riding.
