I bought today a french nagazine about ATVs called "Quad passion magazine" OK, the name sucks, but what's inside is really great. Say, mister Hi-torque, you should give a look at this mag, and do the same. Pics are beautiful, text with nothing to say, not fanstastic, but with no error, not too many adds, and not only one page black&white, everything in colour. But I don't buy a mag because it looks cool, I want to find interesting things. And there are plenty of them. Maybe the most interesting oart is a shoot-out between most sport 4 stroke ATVs. That is Kawasaki Mojave 250, Yamaha Warrior 350, Honda 400 EX, Polaris 500 scrambler and Bombardier 650DS. There are figures, that I believe are true (can anyone tell me where in dirtwheels there are power and speed figures, with susp. travel, turning diameter...). And all this is easily readable and it's a real pleasure to read. Now that I have found real figures about some quads, there is no more speculation.
To begin with, power!
Polaris 500 Scrambler (2x4) : 42hp @ 4600 rev/min
Kawasaki Mojave 250 : 25 @ 8000
Yamaha 350 Warrior : 34 @5500
Honda 400 EX : 30 @ 9000 (!)
Bombardier 650DS : 54 @ 7700

Top speeds.
Kawa : 87 km/h (54mi/h)
Yamaha : 102 km/h (63 mi/h)
Honda : 108 km/h (67 mi/h)
Polaris : 103 km/h (64 mi/h)
Bombardier : 114 km/h (71 mi/h)

Weights
Kawa : 172 kgs
Yamaha : 180 kgs
Honda : 171 kgs
Polaris : 228 kgs
Bombardier : 209 kgs

Turning radius.
Kawa : 2.8m (!)
Yamaha : 2.3m
Honda : 2.6m
Polaris : 2.4m
Bombardier : 2.4m

Max depth of water (until you can't go on anymore, for whatever reason -most of time, water will go in the engine-)

Kawa : 65cm
Yamaha : 62 cm
Honda : 65cm
Polaris : 72 cm
Bombardier : 70 cm

Acceleration.
0-60 km/h (38mi/h)
Kawa : 4.8sec
Yamaha : 4.4 sec
Honda : 4.3 sec
Polaris : 4.1 sec
Bombardier : 3.8 sec.

0-100 km/h (60 mi/h)
Kawa : can't reach it!
Yamaha : 15.1 sec
Honda : 15.8 sec
Polaris : 15.2 sec
Bombardier : 9.6 sec

There are tons of other nice things, but I'm tired of typing, so if there's something you were wondering about, go ahead, ask, maybe I have the answer...well actually they have the answer.

I'm sorry but i think some of that is way off, there is no way a Warrior has 34hp and if a Warrior and a Polaris 500 beat the 400 in acceleration to 38 mph and to 60 mph then the 400 would be the biggest flop which it is not. I think those hp readings are all too high for each quad. A Warrior has about 18-20hp, 400ex 26-28, DS-48hp, I'm not sure about the others. It sounds like they were testing a 300ex in there but the Hp of the 300ex is under 20. The top speeds were close, but again a Warrior tops out at 58, maybe 60.

The Polaris HP rating surprised me, however after looking at the DS' HP rating, I believe they are talking at the crank NOT at the rear wheels. There is going to be a substantial difference between the two.

The warrior with 34hp and the DS having a tighter turning radius than the 400ex? The numbers do seems a bit off...good try anyway!

Cool, but no way a warrior is 34 hp..its like 20 or so..and in the latest 4wheel atv action they said that the 400ex was 25hp. Although they did get one thing right..the ds whoops , just kidding guys, dont kill me for saying that, its a joke

The DS650 has a very tight turning radius. I doubt that those numbers are wrong in that respect. It's steering turns almost as tight as a flat track ATV, where they usually shave the steering stops off.
