Default IMS tank with carburators

The directions and quality is sweet. The install is basically melvin proof, but with an after market carb, I had to dink with the throttle cable.

If you decide to go with the IMS, understand you will loose the easy access to the top of the carb, regardless of carb brand.

I'm going to send IMS pictures so they can decide if the last 3oz of fuel is worth the access issue.

Atleast you can access the outside spark plug with the tool kit socket. Although the second one requires that you loosen the rear bolts that bolt the tank to the frame.

My DS is similar to Bill's, however the spacers I used are a little taller than his, but the same idea. I can get at my spark plugs EASY. Though I do have to unbolt the tank to work on the carburetor. That being said - the Lectron doesn't need to be adjusted for altitude so once it is adjusted right there is nothing else to do.

I've got to fatten the needle a tad and when I do, I'll shim it.

I sure like having the extra fuel capacity when riding out in the middle of nowhere. Fuel is the last thing to be worried about when riding in the desert @ 107 degrees.

I still need to check the spark plug access. I noticed I liked the new fuel petcock location but didn't focus on spark plug access. Honestly, I don't monkey with my plugs that often, so this won't bother me to bad.

Thanks for the good info!!!!!

I thought the petcock could have been a little better placed as well, but all in all it is not so bad. If they had thought ahead to aftermarket carburetors it would have been great if they had left that last 3oz of fuel off and gave us the space for carbs. OH well, the tank works reasonably well. Also be sure your oil return line isn't being pinched - on the early DSs there was an elbow right there so no big deal. On the newer units there is just a nipple that the hose fits onto and it takes some work to make it not kink when first installing the tank.
