Yes, I'm glad to see so many of us on here so concerned over this factor of fuel prices. However, with alternative energy sources, I want to point out some geological factors that may change your minds over which to use. As well as this, I want to cover some of the issues with diesel and why it is costing so much, unnecessarily.

For those of you that are concerned with the factor of "global warming"- I haven't seen many on here, but there are always some- don't be. This is actually one of the most natural cycles of the Earth. Global warming goes in trends of thousands and thousands of years. The Earth will cool down, cause an ice age, and then heat up again to melt the ice. This is the reason that those of you in the valleys of the US and even in the mid-west find fossils on your land. When all of the ice melts, the seas move in, it is natural!!! Humans have done nothing in comparison to worsen the rate of melt. One volcanic eruption spews out enough carbon dioxide and other gases to triple what humans have produced in the past 250 years! I will have you recall the Hawaii has volcanic eruptions, constantly! Kilauea has been in constant eruption since the 80s!!! Internal combustion engines, are not to be blamed.

Now, using alternative fuel sources may be beneficial if looked at only from the perspective of higher mileage, something we all, apparently, yearn for. If you are concerned with "global warming" and the "green-house effect" then you should not, I repeat, NOT support hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Everyone finds them to be wonderful, only biproduct is water vapor, right? Well, that's fine if you were to capture the water vapor and perhaps recondensate it and reuse it, but if you let it escape into the atmosphere, then you are just making the situation worse. Water vapor is the number one green house gas, responsible for keeping UV rays in the Earth's atmosphere!!!!! Most people don't know this! But if you are going to create a car that runs off of the sun, albeit the heat from it or the direct light transfer, this could be good!

Finally, diesel. Yes, we sure do love diesel, but we get gouged for it just like any regular gasoline. Why? Greed. There is no reason for the price increases on this as well. Diesel is probably one of the most back stocked fuel sources that can be found due to the fact that it is not used as much as gasoline. Let me explain: when oil is processed and refined, there is always some that is not. I believe it is in the neighborhood of 37% that does not get refined, and cannot be. This comes as waste, but a lot as diesel!!!! The comparison of gasoline use versus diesel is astronomical, but diesel is created every time a barrel of gasoline is created!!!! Thus, there is plenty of diesel around and it gets created regardless! The only reason for the price increases onto diesel is just greed by the oil companies, and they know that they can get away with it.

Thank you for listening to what I have to say. If you would like, please let me know and I will pull some of my files and check on some of the actual figures and get more information that may shock you. I loved my geology courses in high school and college and actually mentored under a geologist for a couple of years. I am now a college student.

I agree totally with your points especially the one about desiel. I had a guy tell me that worked in a refinery in Texas for over 30 years and retired in 1997 that Desiel fuel was considers "waste" and back in the 60's and early 70's they used to dump thousands of barrels out on the ground. Then the EPA started taking ffect, so they started storing it.

ALso lets not forget about the "bullet trains" that run in Europe which are powered by Magnetic fields. Magnets are especially very powerful, and if they can make a 100 ton train run 350mph then I'm betting the technology is out thier for our vehicles also.

Bigger.

It's already going back up in Northern VA!

IMHO, it's not the oil suppliers that are the problem, they've raised output steadily over the years to match world demand. It's the oil refineries that are the limiting factor to our supply. I wonder if they truly know how much the american people can afford. If they guess wrong, there could be major impacts to our economy. Welcome to a capitalist society, big business is driving the train. Katrina and Rita don't help though, about half of our nation's refineries are in the gulf.
