New plastics are out

Well yes black does go...but I personally wouldnt want to drop that kind of money on new plastic to not have it match. (I mean if you had black decals/graphics on the other say blue plastic it might work out ok, but I like the simplified single color plastics all the way around)

The reason why (as it was explained to me) is because of the safety issue with that DS tank cover. Apparently, its some sort of safety plastic - Dunno - somthing to do with the gas - and thats apparently a liability issue by replacing it with aftermarket body plastic. I suppose someone could go out and buy the tank cover type of safety plastic, but then there may be liablilty issues - Thats how it was explained to me - thats second hand info - so take it for what it is.
I know Quad Tech used to make the carbon fiber tank cover, but they no longer do - at least its not on thier website -

I am wondering how well the new Laker red plastic matches the DS Red, and how well the new Laker yellow plastic matches the DS Yellow. Guys getting red may not match the DS Red tank cover, and guys getting just the rear in yellow may not match their stock yellow fronts.
Just food for thought while making choices, I am still happy there is alternative plastic after over 5 years of waiting, so I'll not complain.

HT,
The yellow does NOT match the traditional bomb yellow. Its somewhere between Suzuki Neon Yellow and traditional yellow. Its more traditional in natural light, but you get that near florescent, it looks pretty neon. I see people getting new seat covers and stock tank covers if they get the plastic.
This is not different than Maier or Fullbore.

all we need now is somebody to start making vinyl tank bras like they used to make for all the 3-wheeler metal tanks back in the day, and like Cascade makes for the Banshees now. then the possibilities would be endless. coat buttons and zippers scratch up the tank covers in the wintertime - this would remedy that too.

Its not so much just the color of the tank cover, its also that your current tank cover is probably worn, scratched up and has the factory decals on it. So you got to buy a new factory tank cover to tie in with the new plastic but I doubt that the factory tank cover will match the gloss of the new plastic. I really like the glossy laker plastic, but it would be odd with the "dull" tank cover. Or maybe you would not even notice it and I am just over analyzing it!

I share your concerns Sandaholic. I would notice the scratches and slight color differences(on the tank cover),and thats what matters most . I don't know , to shell out $400 and have it look half new ? I did spray the top section of my headlight cowl with Plasti-Kote clear,it came out nice and glossy. It held up well untill i flipped her.Guess i could sand and spray the tank cover.
