boondocker nitrous
#1
i wanna pick the brains of you guys running nitrous. firsts of all, what kind of other mods do i need to set the bike up to handle the power(engine, exhaust, drive, etc.)? second, does the nitrous go all the time or is there some type of activation button to turn it on or off? third, how hard to install and tune is it? and last, in terms of 'wear and tear' on an engine how bad is it? thanks

That's probably the best set of questions about nitrous I have ever heard, really! First, You dont need to do any mods for it to work. There are mods that make it better, but are not required. If you are completely stock, add 60% springs in there. Once you get around the 50hp mark, the clutches start to slip. If you buy an complete kit, it comes with a button. So you only have to push it when you want it. We set up arm switches on ours, just to completely shut the system down when we are not using it. Some have micro switches on the throttle, so once its armed, when you hit near full throttle, the nitrous come on and you dont need to push the button, its more for serious drag racing. Install is easy, the hardest part is figuring out where you want everything located. Once you have it all lined out to were you are going to put everything, its really easy. Tuning can be tedious. They now give you a manometer with every kit that makes it alot easier. The time tuning it right the first time will yield reliabilty and fun for a long time to come, with little maintanence. Wear and tear really comes down to tuning. A properly tuned system will yield a very reliable motor. We ran tons of nitrous through our stock motors with zero problems, and I still have the stock pistons to prove it. I could sell them to anyone and they would not be able to tell that nitrous was ever used. Nitrous is an addictive gas, once you start playing with it, all you will want is more, thats where proper tuning will keep your motor together. Just follow the instructions from the kit, they are very good.

Boondocker will work with just about any set up. If your basically stock with a pipe and filter your good to go. you have to be careful if your running high compression. Easy to install but it helps to have someone who knows alot about it to help you tune it. 650VIPER is our resident boondocker doctor, look him up. Hes probably run enough nitrous through his bike to put the entire middle east into a peaceful state OregonDunePatrol can be alot of help. The nitrous is activated by a push button switch mounted on the bars optionally it can be activated on a microswitch on the throttle. I prefer the button. As far as wear and tear I dont know yet, I do know that some guy's like viper get years out of a motor. You just have to be very sure about your tuning, If you go to lean on the setup bad things will happen very quickly. Its better to be slightly rich. Boondocker includes a handy tool called a manometer. Pronounced here on the forums as Man-o-meter (you had to be there). It will measure how much pressure is being forced into the carb bowl to richen the mixture to keep you from going to lean. Be careful the stuff is very addictive and go with the biggest bottle you can mount up. Let me know if I can help.

My lil bro LOVES his! He put a Boondocker kit on his 400EX. We finaly got it dialed on this last weekend on the Dyno. Without it he is getting 31hp, 24ft lbs torque, "on the bottle", a whapping 43.87hp!! and 35ft lbs torque!! That is enough for him to get by me in the drags.

Well Marky, once you run out you could always kill some time by polishing up the underside of your EX. Looked like it was kinda needing some attention there on Saturday

Ya Ya Ya --- Hey, at least I (one of three that we talked about) actually ride all types of dunes! You sure ran over fast! LOL Jeez, you'd thought I'd broke a leg or sumthin! Those skinny tires and rims serve me well most of the time, but once in a while they do get hung up on dune ridges. No problem though, at least I know my tether kill switch works! LOL
