They had all 3.. Just lots of the wrong kind of luck

Maybe they forgot to pick the OTHER! riders that won the baja 1000 on the RINCON! remember ?Gilberto Santana,Cono Ramirez,Arturo Salas, great desert racers from the other side of the border!this are the boys that brought the DS to victory last year!! all 3 Bajas! But now BMW has them on their test bike!!!MMMMMM!this guys were called cheaters cause they won! and nothing was ever proved, not like Johhny Campbell zooming thru the coast trying to catch up!! and all is on video"Dust to Glory"That is just my 2 cents,I would have loved to see the DS win again.

Well, I finally got some info. As reported during the race day notes, the one Outlander had an engine go down. The other two were running strong, but it turned out in a post race inspection that nearly all the ITP ATR tires they were running were from a mistakenly sent batch of blem's and defects. They had tires go south between every pit, costing lots of time, as well as fuel economy resulting in running out of fuel. After the race they inspected the tires to find that the insides were marked locating areas of defect on the tires that wasn't noticed when they had them shipped and mounted. When the Outy's were able to run with 4 tires they were extremely fast and durable, so I'd chalk this one up to bad luck. I believe they will be running at least 1 of the Outlanders in the 2006 SCORE Off Road series so I'd expect to see them have a measure of success in the comming year.TPR
.
This is not bad luck it is 3P's. If BRP got the tires and wheels all ready mounted from ITP then ITP owes BRP about $250 too $500 K, If EPIC and Golden West did the mounting them someone needs to be fired and BRP need to find some one new to manage there ATV race team.

there is an excuse for everything, it all comes down to did you have what it takes to cross the line first? If not you didn't win and somebody else did, thats racing be prepared or lose, it's all your fault if you dont come in first period.

I agree with you, CALDS650. I myself do not believe they recieved blem tires. I sent the post to ITP to see what they thought about it. The Mexican team did really well for a couple of reasons. They are excellent riders, they know Baja and they prepped there own quad and took care of there own pits without the above mentioned companys. BRP needs to do something because all that money that they are wasting with these above mentioned companys is money they get from you Bombardier owners when you purchase a BRP product. Just my 2 cents but if you look at the results, BRP hasn't had any since the Mexican team. In order to get them back on a quad, BRP would need to get rid of the above mentioned companys because they do not want to have anything to do with either of them.

No reply back from them. I heard that the tires were not the problem. The quad has to stay together in order to finish.

I know Mike Penland and everytime he has come out to race the 1000 he usually takes care of everything himself(quad, prep, pits etc.). I assume he probablly used the quad he will do GNCC with or at least a very similar set up.
