I mean they are out to make a buck at your expence of knowledge... right ?
I have talked to some of the parts guys over there a bit and they just don't see many DS's. Most guys can't handel them I guess.
But they do sell good quality items... I have spent many dollars with them.... just not on true performance parts for the DS...

Fair enough......

Welcome aboard FatManQuad. Survey says-you're going to love it here. Good Lord, 600lbs? At 1HP per 10lbs lost you will be smoking SandBomber in a while! Oops, guess it might not work out like that.
I would recommend that you look into oldmanracings stock carb mods. Next to free and it really brings the beast to life.
As far as getting the performance bug and it never stopping, well it does take discipline and can be done, but it's hard. I'd say wait a little while til the 855 is tried and proven then when all of the 730 kits show up on eBay, pounce.

I just have to---Virgil by the was.? What the hey is that??? Sorry, I couldn't control myself.

Hey FatManQuad, you are not to far from me, if you have never been to Badlands in Attica IN you should make a trip down there.
Or make a Silver Lake trip in the summer

Virgil-----you shouldn't have any problem winning big bore utility sled pulls

Big Waynster-----Sorry to read about your stuff being taken. The Denver cops don't bother to look for stolen cars either. Keep up the hunt! The club on the steering wheel doesn't stop them at all. Any opinion about the club device made for the brake pedal?

Well guys, much to all of your disapproval I have gone ahead and bought the Alba Racing pipe kit and CDI. I know you all have said that their perf. upgrades are not that good but I guess it is going to have to be a learning experience for me. Also I think it is personal preferance to what everyone likes and dislikes too. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate everyone's advice. Plus it is my first quad and I'm not ready for a huge hp jump. Just looking to get a little of the bog out of the motor since it is straining (Crying out for help more like it) to pull my behemoth of a self around. And by the way, does any of you guys know of anyone looking to sell a banshee? My sister's boyfriend is looking for a banshee and i am just trying to help him out. If any of you know of anyone it would help me (and him) out. Thanks guys.

Hi FatManQuad,
You should have let me know as I still have my Alba exhaust and would let it go for a song and dance.....
Just sitting on the shelf.
Go with the open end cap if you can get away with the noise restrictions it will help the exhaust flow better.

Fatman, take it from another fatman. The best thing to help your bike out under the load of a heavy rider is to gear it properly. Sprockets and chain are cheap and easy to install compared to other mods. I have run several combos, and it changes everytime I add something new. I have run 16/40 stock, 15/40, 15/42, 14/40, and 14/42. But being that your a big guy I would sugguest a 14/40. It will help you launch the bike better and give you the low end grunt your looking for. Even for trail riding!! If your running the stock 20inch tire run a 15 tooth front sprocket. Might not want to go with the 14 in the front. It will drop you gearing to low and you will spend too much time shifting. Try a 22inch tire. It makes a big difference, expecially in the sand (and run the 14 tooth front sprocket).

Second, deal with the suspension. Adjust it to your weight. Tighten the suspension in the rear all the way. Some of the smaller guys hate riding my bike because its like riding a bull (they dont have the weight to compress my spring, like I do).

Then go after the power. The cdi was one of my best investments. I bought the alba cdi and I picked up about a bike and a half on my brothers Raptor(he weights about the same as me). But I will be upgrading to a Vortex for my new motor.

But everyone is right about the mods, they never end.

Currently Im about to take on the next evolution of my bike. It deals with a whole bunch more power and alot of light weight parts. Also trying to get my weight down to help out the bike. Im a drag racer at heart with the body of a sumo wrestler. So I have to make sure everything can accomodate the extra weight.

Hopefully with the help of a good builder and some nos, I will be pumping out around a 100hp. With a DS weight around 350lbs.

If you need some more advice pm me. I will gladly talk with you.

Yo 1Big,
What did you do to drop your bike to 350? I've seen that a lot of people around here have shed some serious pounds but I can't imagine what I need to do to drop almost 150. I have already droped the front fenders and brackets, shaved rears, ditched the air box, chopped the battery mount, and I still don't think I'm below 400. What else did you do? Have you gotten into the machined hubs? I wondering cause at 350lbs myself I need all the help I can get... there is almost no hope of me shedding the lbs, I have no self control. LOL

Fatholly, I have not started the diet on my ds yet. Im going to be taking the advice of several of the forum members. Sandbomber, Choose, and Annihilater.

The plastics will be gone, front brakes, front grab bar, new light weight a-arms, spindle mount tires and wheels, aluminum axle, head light removed, tail light removed, marvin shaws, possibley a new fuel tank and oil tank, new steering stem and remove anything thats not needed on the frame. Other possibilites(light weight battery, aluminum subframe, and lightweight radiator).

But like you I cant comprimise the strength of the quad. I have spent alot of time talking with these members and getting ideas for my bike. On dunes and Sandbomber are going to be alot of help with the parts.

And its going to come piece by piece. I cant go and buy everything at once.

If anyone else has anything to add to my list, feel free. I can always take advice.

I have set my goals and im going to get them.

100hp
350lbs Ds
sub 300 lbs rider

I will be taking pics and posting them as I go!!! And posting weights and hp numbers as I go.

I will be getting new hubs with my aluminum axle, yamaha bolt pattern to run 8inch wheels.

The evolution begins after Planet Sand in April.

Hey 1Big, thanks for the advice on the sprockets and tires. I have already undergone a suspension upgrade. I went to Mx-Tech and he put on all progressive shock springs and revalved the stock shocks. For 400 bucks I couldn't go wrong, it rides like a caddy. I think i have the stock o-ring chain that came with the bike. Is it a good chain or should i be looking to upgrade it soon?
