Good assessment. 14:1 is high as you can go isn't it?
I think Mister HP bike at FSW last year was running 16:1 or so

thanks OMR,
my piston is a CP rather than JE and has gapless second ring, the formula on that .pdf came very close to the CP specs, slightly different gap spec for the gapless seconds I have but close.

Very interesting reading on how application pertains to gap on that page also!

Here's an interesting read on pistons and rings - cast vs. forged, gapless rings pros and cons, etc...

Cast pistons are very hard compared to forged so they dont swell as much when heated. Forged is smaller at the top of the piston(where the heat is) because it swells more and is more plyable. The plyability of the forged piston allows it to withstand more abuse than a hard cast piston.

Example: If somebody shoots at you would you rather have 1 inch of glass in front of you or 1 inch of plexiglass. Think of NOS or detnation as the bullit.

Boomer84, I dont run CP pistons so I dont have any #'s for them.
