Hi ThorMX902y,

I am planning on doing the same thing, (I think)
See
Initially I dropped my front sprocket size becasue the stock DS needed a little more torque to get around better in the dunes.... from what I am able to understand ... at the loss of some top end (not much).
Well now that I have more power (From new Mods) I don't think I need the lower gearing anymore and will be going back to stock front gear to gain a few more MPH on the top end.
I am going to test out my theory and let you know what I find.

Good luck!

ThorMX902y,

Basically a stock 04 DS.... with the
TM45 Carb & Ported intake,
Full Ron Woods Exhaust & Aftermarket CDI
Removed the Air filter restrictor box and run the K&N filter.
& 60% Ron Woods Clutch Springs as far as drive trane goes...everything else is just bling....
I dropped to the 15tooth front sproket back when the bike was stock as it did not have the torque and my tires were the smaller 20" SandStars now I have 22" Haulers and 51 horse... so the bike pulls harder and spins more off the line.
I want to keep the spin down and pick up a few more top end MPH's and I think maybe the stock front gear will do that for me...

I will let you know....

Thanks DSNUT,

I have vary few dollars just now for any more MODS as I am working on a new Toy Box trailer ... so I figure what the hell let me play a little bit more with what I do have.

Should be interesting ? I will reply back to this thread with what I come up with ...

I would like to lighten up the rotateing mass a bit i.e. the (Chain, Sprokets, & Hubs) just to gain a little more rev speed out of the D but again cost vs. benefit...

Curious how are the Dunes up there in Oregon ? DuneFest I think you call it ?
as I have some family up that way and would love to do some camping up there... come our summer time that is else I am all about Glamis and Gordon's Well down our way in SoCal?

-Later

Where you might sacrifice is on the really steep race hills like thunder mountain........on the other hand, if you can pull third on that hill with current gearing and you can still pull it with the higher gears, you will be going faster at each rpm. Most race hills aren't that extreme. I bet you see gains most places.
