Well said, I might also add RELIABILITY.....don't matter how fast or comfortable it is if you can't depend on it getting you there and back without any problems.

 

We are only reving to 8000 also, where those YFZ's are reving to 11,000. Put a DS to 11,000 with the right mods and you will be going too fast for my fat a$$.

 

I've tapped it out in 5th gear a couple of times and it's MORE then fast enough for me. I just want to get from point A to point B and back to point A without breaking my neck or getting stranded.

 

mine pulled 79mph stockwith bald tires at the limiter down a hill on gravel :-)

 

I think more important then speed is grunt power...This can come into play for either a utility or a sport bike depending on the type of riding. If you're only doing moto cross top speed is probably a little more important but my hunch is that most of use are not moto cross racers.

My buddy is sold only on sport quads, he prefers all that shifting and stuff and seems concerned with top speed. Comfort and reliability are my two main concerns, I know for a fact he is getting beat up on a lot of the trails we ride and he's never spent seat time in a utility to appreciate the comfort of the IRS. Now I love my DS but I usually don't take it up into the forest unelss I'm up in Oregon at my brothers where there are miles of wide open dirt roads or if I simply need an extra quad. In all honesty, if I could get a decent trade in for my DS I'd get me an Outlander 800 YESTERDAY.

 

16/40 gearing stock tires mines hit 78 in an 1/8 mile still pulling strong.
