I run with no air box, so I was getting quite a bit a leaking here. I extended the case breather hose back to the snorkel between the filter and carb. There is a nub on the other side from the balance tube. I drilled a hole there and hooked up the extension from the case breather. I have not have a drip of oil there since.

Thanks alot guys, just wanted to know that it was normal.............so I guess it would always be smart to check the oil before starting which by the way is a little confusing. Do you check the dipstick screwed in or out?? I tend to just pour 4 quarts in anyway since it's a dry sump, but just wanted to ask the question.

the crankcase breather is very low on the DS, most come out the top of the carnkcase...silly design.
I used to have mine tapped into the intake boot too, sometimes on a very steep incline, or in the case of a rollover, a gulp of oil ends up dripping off the air filter into the airbox, kept a paper towl in there just for that.
ultimately I ended up routing a longer breather hose straight up the frame by the fan mounts, looped at top, then back down to just under frame. any gulps can fall to ground with no mess on the bike. some call it poluting, I call it returning it from where it came.
