East Coast DS Days - Silver Lake Sand Dunes
#41
Well I am not sure yet what day we will be able to get there but more than likely it would be leaving early sat morning and then spending sat night in one of the close hotels.
I think it would be a good idea to start a list of members names with license plate numbers so that for those who are for sure going to not be able to make it till saturday have a chance for another member who WILL be there early to grab them a voucher. We can do this at a later time as it is pretty far off yet and im sure some (like myself) dont know for sure what day we will be arriving *just a thought*
A few of my yfz riding buddies are interested so they will probably come along - but dont worry guys they are pretty easy to beat

Hightower,
Each vehicle is allowed 2 vouchers, but be sure to have the license plate number off the vehicle not with you. Also, you have to get in line each night to get the voucher the following day. We once asked why we have to dedicate so much time to get vouchers, when were already there friday night. Their response is, it gives everyone(including the ones showing up on Saturday), the same chance to get into the park. Makes sense I guess. So, every Friday and Saturday night, we grill out in line and eat our dinner there.

people were using their vouchers and pulling other trailers in the park with them, so if you have a trailer, you will need that number also.
Hightower, the 1st DS days was the year before I went with you, that was on labor day also.

Hey DSBOMB I remember you... you loaned my bud a hammer to pop on his spark arrester. He was being a bit of a baby to use it. Yes I have some pics of that event. Let me look them up and post them. I hope this year more come together. It was only like 5 of us. I will put the pic in my gallery image too when I find.
Maybe I can contribute a life size banner to the event, but where the heck would we put it? I can make up a 4'x8'. Would go great with a group shot.
Chris/Hightower I didn't forget you on those decals.. I've been insanely busy and my project DS has been sadly neglected. I am heading up to Quebec in two weeks and trying to get everything off the plate before I go.

Oops sorry James, I'll fix that album in a second...forgot to give it public access I guess...consider it done.
Entomber don't worry about the decals, I aint got a carb from you to tweek yet either, so you owe me nothing!
About the banner - if you make one, it can be bungeed to my EZ-Up awening, me and the wife will be set up at the beach, so we can put the banner on the awening poles with the lake in the background for a nice group shot. Or turn it around for a dune backdrop, either way. 8' long banner would fit it pefect.

So all the things needed to ride at the lake can be gotten there correct? I know this may be an old question but most of us have never been there and we wanna be sure. The more info about when to get there, how to reach the park, how much cost, and where to stay would help me out at least. I just like to know what I'm doin before I do it. I did visit your site,(and it is cool) and read alot of stuff about the park but still unsure about some things. Well gotta go, I'll check back later. RUSS

Russ,
All info is available at the East Coast DS Days website - there are links to the DNR info page that tells you all the rules and what is needed, as well as loads of lodging info. But it is a lot of info that may not be organized in the best fashion, I'll see about writing up the main key points to answer some of the most common questions and post them up on the website later this week.
to answer a little now -
* you must have a sparky screen on your HMF, and I do not know if it will pass sound check or not so it would be best if you contact HMF and order the quiet insert they make for this pipe - it costs $20 and has its own sparky screen on it. I have one I will be taking. but I won't bother installing it unless I have to, and I have a plain screen that will be installed before I leave home. They always check for screens, but not always dB, but dB testing is common on weekends.
* you must have a long flag - longer than most other places require - they sell them right there at the dune shop beside the parking lot, or there are a number of places around town that sell them too.
* you can take your truck on the dunes too, but you must also have a flag on it - they sell flag mount bracket at the dune shop that clamp to the front tow hooks most trucks have
* there is NO double riding, and if you are bringing a child he must have proof of ATV safety training course - don't remember age but its at the DNR site somewhere.
* The "Voucher" system is to get you in the dune lot without having to wait in a line the morning you are trying to get in - on weekends when its busy it is best to show up a day early to get voucher for the following day or else you may end up in a line for a bit the next morning. There is a map linked from the website that shows the location of the voucher center and dune entrance and all that jazz. there are signs all over the roads in the area, once you get to Mears its pretty easy to find your way around, its a very tiny little bitty town.
I'll try and get a list of these key points typed up and put on the website soon - in the meantime keep asking stuff on this post and I'll see that the info gets included. I may not be able to answer them all but between us all we'll get them covered!
