Major Web cam problem (maybe?)

For those of you who have been following along on my rebuild already know what happen. For those who dont know here is the short version. A piece broke off the exhaust cam from the decomp ear to about halfway across the lobe. Which wedged the decomp lever and other assorted chunks of metal between the cam lobe and the head. Which when it stopped the cam, it broke off the front of the cam where it mounts to the sprocket.
I have just heard of another motor that this has happen too. Im not sure of how much damage it did but thats two in a short period of time. It has broke in the very same spot as mine did. This one I think the decomp stayed on. Im not sure I will have to ask again. I have theory on this. When most people change their cams out they have to remove the decomp lever before shipping them as cores. How do most of you remove the pin? Im guessing some blocks, a punch and a hammer. Ds decomps are one of the hardest to remove so sometimes you gotta get a bigger hammer. I thinking that in the process they are stressing the end of the cam, maybe even cracking it getting the pins out. Everyone that looked at my cam said they had never seen or even heard of that before. Now it has happen twice. KMS presses the pins out with a tool Kelly made so they come out easy. He even tack welded the pin in place on the this last one that broke to be sure it wouldnt come out. What do you guys think. My head is being shipped out today. I had him not install the lever for fear of this happening again. The question is now, will it start with the 109's minus the lever.
I would think that WEB would have some way of checking for cracks before they regrind a cam. Im a bit worried about this. Im not in a position to change the cams right now due to other financial responsibilities. What do you guys think?

First, I dont think you will have any issues with no comp lever.
Second, I like your theory, it makes good sense to me, but i have no idea.
Third, put her on and ride it like you stole it, it was probably just a freak deal, no reason to loose sleep over it. There is thousands of web cams on the market.

I couldnt get an answer from anyone on wether or not it will fire up without the decomp. Its going to really suck to ruin a $70 headgasket to find out it wont.

Scatter, there are many people not running decomp levers, they all start just fine. You will have no issues. Well unless you buy a yamy, then you will have lots. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]
