Just got my DS and have a few questions...
I just got my DS (2003 Baja) two days ago, and just brought it home today. The guy I bought it from gave me some receipts for some work being done to it late last year, with new shift forks and gears in the trans. Was this a common problem? Next up, the air filter is "hillbillied" on. It looks as though it is just clamped onto the carb, with the factory filter zip tied to a K&N. The airbox is still installed, but the large (like 4") hole is taped up, and the box is being used as a trunk for straps and such. I would like to put this back to the stock configuration, only retain the K&N and use an outerwear. Is this a good idea, or is there something better? Anyone got the parts I need for sale (I assume there is a tube of some sort to connect the airbox)? Last question, the choke on the carb seems to be stuck, and won't move either way. I believe it is in the off position. Any thoughts on this? Any advice/help is appreciated. Thanks,
-Dave

First of all, WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!
Lets start with the carb/air filter. What kind of carb is this? If it is stock then you want to remove the whole air box from the black intake boot that runs from the back of the carb to the air box. Install a K&N filter to the end of the boot and you should be good to go. Let us know what kind of carb.
If you do not have the black tube Im sure one of us has one laying around in our garage. See the garage thread as well.

Wow, quick response. Thanks. I believe it to be the stock carb. The only mods are a Yoshi Pipe (with a spark arrestor that needs to be replaced..) and a DynoJet Kit. I think that I do need the tube, it connects from the carb flange to the airbox right? How does it mount to the box? I am thinking of buying a service manual to solve these issues... Thanks again.

If you do have to run the airbox, what you want to try is running with the lid on the box with the two black vent hoses disconnected from the airbox. But with just the yoshi, you might get away with just running with the airbox on the bike. If your not riding in any wet conditions then I would just mount the K&N to the end of the black snorkel tube coming from the carb and be finished.
