Default Should I get drunk ?

My friend was telling me about running alcohol instead of gas and I'm looking for more info, pros and cons. I have tons of questions so please respond if you have something that will help me make a decision.

What is needed to make the conversion? a whole carb or a kit for my current one?

what is the beneift of alcohol ?

any cons to running it?

with a stock motor is it ok to run alcohol and do you get any better performance?

How does switching to alcohol affect jetting?

is it ok to run alcohol for trail/track or is it just a drag fuel?

Feel free to chime in with any other info as well. I appreciate any help.

u don't need a kit. i don't think they make a kit for the stock carb but if u have the tm45 or lectron, there is alcohol kits. some guys just drill out their main and pilot jets to get the larger jet sizes. i think its safe to say u will need to double your jets size to maybe get a ball park starting point for jetting. maybe somebody with alcohol and stock carb experience will chime in on a better starting point...

pros...

-increase in torque and horsepower
-your engine runs cooler

cons...

- u will use almost double the amount of fuel
- alcohol attracts moisture, need of purging ds of alcohol after use
- can cause milky oil if u running rich???
- can wash oil down from cylinder walls if running to rich??

u might need a higher flowing petcock valve on your stock gas tank to flow more fuel to the carb

Well if you are deciding on a beverage, I would lean toward alky over gas

As far as for your bike, if you are mainly stock with your setup, I would change other things first before you get into running alky. You will want a high compression piston, a suitable carb like a TM45 or Lectron. You will need cams and porting that will allow greatly increased quantities and velocity of the air fuel mix into the cylinder and getting the exhaust out. You will want the obvious bolt ons like proflo intake and a good pipe of course.

Once you have these things in place, you will be ready to see a gain from alky................if you know how to keep it tuned optimally.

At snakehunt we put AMD's bike on alky, stock internals, woods drag pipe, tm 45. Big difference. #95 needle, drilled jet holder out to 1/8 inch, I believ the main we drilled out to a #28 or 26 can't remember where we ended up used a 60 pilot, should have used a bigger needle and seat but with the stock internals standard worked fine. Mine puts out close to 70hp and I still use the stock petcock and don't run dry even on the real long runs at WOT.

many years back i ran alky on a 2 stroke bike. i had a larger carb and 4x jet size. its only worth it for racing, with the prices of fuel the way they are. alky runs cool so you can add some meth also.

I have always run mine on Alchole and all I do is use anywhere from a 300 main to no main at all and i dont use a pilot jet at all. I have always used the stock Petcock. My best results with a 12 1/2 - 1 Piston, Ron Woods Drag Pipe and TM Carb was using a 330 Main Jet. With the stock Piston and standard Exhaust I used the 310.
When you go with after market cams it changes again. You will see a difference in Performance but, I dont recomend it for Trail ridding.

Thanks for all the info guys. I don't think it's the thing for me to do right now. I usually run trails and don't "need" the extra power if it a tuning pain or uses more fuel. Besides it looks like I could use some other mods before turning to alcohol. So for now I'll keep gas in the quad and put the alcohol in me! I appreciate the info.
