The stock pipe with a ODP disced end cap works well for trails.I assume that you already know that you cant have both a good top end pipe (and) a good low end one but the disced end cap is a good compromise. With a disced end cap or a similar pipe with discs you can add discs for more flow and top end performance or you can remove discs for reduced noise and increased low end performance. The nice thing about a pipe or end cap with discs is that you have a choice and to some extent some tunability that you dont get without discs. If your carb is sensitive to slight changes like adding or removing discs on a pipe you can add or remove the air box lid to accomodate flow changes to a degree.

Any pipe that is a bottom to midrange pipe will lose much of that lower end power when you remove discs or install the quiet core.
My old LTE system was sound checked with the quiet cores at 95 db. It was only 98 db without the core. The cop told me he didn't start handing out tickets until you come in at about 102. So I left the cores out. The LTE on my DS had great bottom end.
The other pipe that had massive bottom end was the Yosh RS-3. It was louder than the LTE. The quiet core would be a MUST if you were worried about db levels.

Russ, I run the HMF too but don't you think it would be alittle loud for the 96db he needs... I've never had mine checked as I ride almost entirley Buttercup/Glamis so there is no worry about sound... but when I let friends ride my bike they take off and it is pretty freakin loud. Just a thought.

The hmf is loud, but with a core it is quieter right. lol I need to get one of those cores. I hav'nt had to worry about the db's yet. I was just figuring that since the hmf is a great pipe for the price, that would be the way to go. Around here there is laws on sound too, but they usually don't mess with ya if your riding carefull and not being an idiot. It was just my opinion. Good luck with what you choose. But I would say the lte are super cool and if I was'nt goin for a engine conversion I would bid on those lte's on ebay right now.
