Default LEAKING OIL

The ds650 has been leaking some oil, I can see it on the skid plate. I'm guessing that it is coming for the drain plug. But not sure if that is the problem. Is there a way to check to where the leak is comming from...any input helpful.

Clean the motor and degrease everything with carb cleaner until bone dry run it and treat it like a fat chick. Check for wet spot

Does the drain plug have a gasket, and if so do they reccommend for it to be reused?

No gasket... just a washer. Are your threads ok? It should seat flat and seal.

I was leaking oil from around the sprocket and that created a mess everywhere. Another place i was leaking oil is up near the starter...its just a dribble here and there and not enough to even barely notice. My skids were always oily and greasy 24/7 when my sprocket seal was gone...changed it out and they havent been oily since.

DuneRider, I had a problem with an oil leak at my starter as well... it was making a huge mess... the problem is the o-ring that seals the starter in the case. Mine was worn and melted a little... I think what happened was I had been lean on a very hot day. Since the head pipe is so close I think it flattened out, then the vibration took care of the rest. It was an easy fix... even though I ordered the OEM replacement from Bomb ($12 for an o-ring ) I didn't end up using it. I went to the hardware store and got one that was thicker than stock... if I remember correctly it was a #19???? Anyway, it only cost me 50 cents at the local Ace, and I have not had a leak since.
