Ive been tested twice at SL. It tested 98 both times. As for the db rules, I think they are fairly relaxed about them if your under 100. Sure it stinks, but its their game and we have to play by their rules. Just a side note, one of the times I was tested, I was running a Mr. HP drag pipe with my own end piece to keep the sound down. It worked great for the 15 minutes it took for me to get into the park, then the packing blew out of it and the db shot thru the roof. LOL
A little funny story:
2 years ago, I was at a drag race in Lodi Wisconsin. The dnr was there to observe. They were checking db levels purely for some data. They asked about the ugly stick pipe, and I explained as best I could how and why I was running it for the drags. I volunteered to test. The Ds is tested at 2500 rpms in Wi. It made 113 db at that rpm. (this was a genesis motor). I told them we ran 10,500 rpm in the 300 foot drags, and I was curious of where the db's were at that rpm. The meter only went to 132 before it shut off. I was informed that, according to their handbook, it would only take 10 seconds to lose your hearing at that range.
Hopefully see some of you out there on the 4th!!

I did some looking and this is what I found!!!
Exhaust packing
For $6.00. Not too bad. Better than getting the stock stuff!

If you change the packing to something else other than the original, it may not necesarilly be quieter, it may become louder.
There is more to packing than meets the eye. It is best to send your HMF back to HMF for repacking. It is almost impossible to pack a muffler as tight as it needs to be, and loose packing is not good for performance or noise.
Yoshimura has the most advanced packing out there, steel wool rapped around core and then glass, and you'll practically tear the pipe up just trying to get it out its so tight.
The stock pipe is packed super tight too, its loose glass strands that are a mile long and I don't know how they get all that stuffed in there.
But an HMF sport pipe is pooring out 98dB new, so if you are getting 98/99 you don't need new packing. You just need the quiet insert, it knocks of around 4 dB I think?? I have one, and don't go to SL without it, its $20 and has its own screen on it.
If you do take on the task of repacking, be certain to use STAINLESS steel rivets upon reassembly if your pipe is riveted, cause if you use aluminum rivets it may fall apart like my white bros. did in the middle of a mountain trail 10 miles from camp in colorado one year. They loosened up and virbration wollered out the holes in the muffler can to the point of distruction and white bros. would not sell me a replacement can by itself because their service sucks as bad as anybody.
