Sand Sports Magazine to cover DS Days?
#21
Okay folks....before this gets any more embellished, let me set the record straight.
Major Echo was correct for the most part, except when he said the Editor of Sand Sports wasn't a quad guy. At the time I met him, (echo) I was working full time for ATV Rider and freelancing for Sand Sports. In fact you'll still see my name in the mast head for the Aug and Sept issue of ATVR, even though I left at the end of May.
The weekend I met echo I was doing a ride spot for Sand Sports, July/August issue pg 42 and he voiced his opinions of the lack of stories about ATV's in the sand and sand drag racing. My response to that is...I left a national ATV publication that tried to cover the entire industry to come to a magazine that covers what means the most to me...Sand.
Some may say that Sand Sports is all about buggies or Sand Rails. Not true. They've featured many stories about quads, and even dirt bikes. It's about vehicles for Sand, no matter the size, shape or speed. Now that I'm here, I'll do what I can to ensure that ATV's (in the sand) get the best coverage possible from one guy who considers himself as one of you. (In the 18 months I've been on this side of the desk, I've found out that many Editors don't make the comittment to actually buy a quad, they just use the test models they get from the OEM's. In my nine years of being an enthusiast, I've bought three.)
This is also a two way streak. In our current issue July/Aug there is a survey we've asked readers to fill out and return. This is your chance to be heard by the Editor & Publisher.
As strong as I feel about being a DS owner myself, I also have to realize that it's one of the least popular quads when you look at all the models out there. Too many feel it's heavy and too hard to throw around when you want to ride aggresive. But, it fits me like a glove.
I look forward to meeting all who can come to the DS Days...
Mark
PS about the wife and that nicely modded 400EX, look at the May/June issue pg94 of Sand Sports, that's my honey kickin' a nice roost.

RotaxRanger,
I am very glad to see your interest in this event and our sport. I have always enjoyed Sands Sports Magazine. There has always been a lack of quad articles I have felt though. From time to time they have had some good ones! Your right though, they do cover the spectrum of the dunes and what goes in them, or should I say over them.
As one of the originators of DS Days I would be glad to share with you the ideals we had with it. There is more to DS Days than meets the eye and I think it could really make for a "from the heart" kind of article that is rarely seen. I think the history may suprise you. Anyways if your interested, I could shoot ya a PM with contact info.
BTW, Welcome to the forum!!!!!!
