That is an excellent suggestion. You can also go to VP fuels and ask them after giving them your compression ratio. Octane is not the only thing that serves in curtailing pre-ignition. There are other additives that they use to also do the same thing.
Woops! Dang it! I repleyed to this thread again!

Being that he bought from HPR, he should call them. should they have told him at the time of purchase what fuel to run, and some ideals on jetting<---- this is some of the things I get bent on , folks buy these items with out asking questions, FLUX do some reserch on this site, you will learn lots about your quad, and get vase amounts of info from some smart guys on this forum,

the hr3 will build more cylinder pressure then the 109 making his lean condition and need for higher octane even worse. he might want to consider alky , cams that bleed a little cylinder pressure, or opening the head up a little to lose some compression if this combo proves to sensitive to preignition.

has he run it long enough to be able to get a reading on his plugs or do a compression check...sounded to me when I read the first few lines that there was a problem with the quad being too lean or something wrong with the carb...hopefulyl he installed it right I am sure he did maybe messed up on the cams or valves

sorry i havent got back to you guys on this.... but i havent had time to screw with it anymore...
timming is dead on, i can tell by the way it turns over and runs plus the marks line up..........
im thinking its just jeting.. ill have to get out and run it this weekend and try some diff. jets..
in addition to the piston and cams i did some porting , matched the intake to the head and
smoothed and polished the inside of intake and exhaust ports.. i may have made them a little
biger but not much, got rid of the casting marks.... so... because of the increased flow and
increased comp. ive read were that raises the intake pulse and draws more air through the
carb. and more fuel so you have to drop a size or 2 on main jet size... it dose on 2 strokes,
i would think a 4 stroke would be the same........??????
what do you guys think??????
