I still can't figure out who paid $8k for a motor. I didn't pay anywhere near that for my motor.........

Mike, an aluminum axle will not give you anywhere close to two lengths on our race hill. It might give you that in a flat 1/4 mile if top speed is drag limited rather than limited by rpm, lol.

On our race hills, you will be about right to see 2 lengths with a 15 shot of NOS...........as fast as you already are.......besides from a physics standpoint the biggest gains come from the rotational mass that is farthest from the axis of rotation. Axle's are pretty much just dead weight. Your 8" wheels and light tires and 520 conversion are much more important............not to mention if you go with a light axle based on the options available, you will have to settle for a narrower rear end. Now if we were talking about a diet plan............that would be a good thing But since you like to dune........that will really mess up your sidehilling and emergency stability

Dude, I can tell already, you dont know a single thing about rotating mass. Rotating mass of any kind will make or break your bike. Just ask Annhilater how much his bike picked up by ditching the stock axle and going to the JJ&A. Yeah, thats right. Real world scenario. Just because your piece of chromoly tubing from Dave Moore Racing didnt give you the performance you paid for, dont mean a JJ&A aluminum drag axle will not either. Oh and one more thing, just to show you dont really know what your talking about on the axles/rotating mass....they also come in 34" width's.

Your welcome Mike.

Mike,

The thing I've always enjoyed about the Oregon Dunes is that you can go there, out of the blue, by yourself and always find someone to ride with and each lunch with. Yes there are those that are able to mix strong competion with a good attitude. There are some that have talents lacking in the "good attitude" area. I've never seen the need for violence on the dunes, or even lawsuits. I suppose when somone is worried about those things it makes me wonder what dunes they are riding on?

There always seems to be the basic groups that ride on the dunes at Florence. Those that are strictly interested in competition hill, and those that are interested in cross country dune riding and sometimes a little of both. In each case, it simply a matter of how much competition someone enjoys and how much someone enjoys simply riding with someone – Either on the hill or out on the dunes.

Which ever one someone is, well I suppose that’s up to them. For me, when whatever I do no longer becomes fun, then I have to consider changing a bit. There are people that are intensely competitive, and yet they are still some of the friendliest and funnest guys around.

There are stories I hear about Glamis, the gangs there and the gang fights. While I can’t say I have any direct experience with gangs, In my younger days I have been around groups of people that hate other groups of people simply because of where they lived. I’ve even had one of my best friends jumped by 20 people in another group, had his head kicked, bones broken and was comatose for three weeks, but had nothing to do with the dunes. I’ve only come close to seeing this type of mentality once on the Oregon dunes, and that was very unusual. And that was based around someone losing, and the two groups got their friends and they were going to have a big old gang fight. The cops broke that up before it started.

So, from my perspective, and the years of being at the dunes in Oregon, I strongly feel that the people on the dunes are 95%-98% non-violent. Most of the time everyone goes to the dunes to compete up the hill or do a group ride across the dunes – simply put, almost everyone gets along.

There will always be sore losers, and non-sore losers. I suppose someday the hate mentality will eventually creep into the dunes. For now, most of the time, I enjoy going to the dunes, meeting up with friends, and having an awesome ride.

I think there are a few tough talkers when it comes to competition and duning, but in my experience, it’s simply a lot of talk – I’ve not seen one fight after a dune drag. The toughness I have seen through the years of my life is hugely different than what I actually see at the dunes. I sincerely hope that it always stays that way.

My chromoly axle is slightly heavier than an aluminum axle but it is 1" wider than stock and I can jump it, dune it, trail it as effectively as a stock axle. You definitely don't want to heat that axle up in any way......including with a seized bearing. Chromoly crystalizes at about 600 degrees and the strength goes out the window.

I don't believe a full width aluminum axle will withstand the kind of riding Mike and I do when we are not on the race hill............especially since Mikes bike is close to full weight (450-470 wet I imagine).

A large part of the benefits of going to a light weight axle assembly is found in the lighter wheel hubs and sprocket and brake hubs.

You can't buy axles like mine anymore..........there wasen't any money in them. Mine is 35" and with all 4 hubs on it but no sprocket...........it weighs 13 lbs. I think a good aluminum axle is around 9 lbs..........but that is a 24" axle I believe. If the aluminum was 34" like Scott says you can get it will be a little heavier..............

I was reading this whole post from the begining and want to back up a bit and maybe clarify something. cheetah cubs DO NOT make 90hp out of the box. I dont care what else you are running. they still need LOTS of port work before they will run. I have never used a pair but a friend of mine who has a reputable shop and builds drag banshee motors on a daily basis and has sets of these cylinders in stock told me that a set of stock unported cubs dont run much harder than a set of unported stock cylinders. they can be massaged to make great power though. alot of people by these kits and bolt them on untouched thinking they will really run and they dont. I have seen cubs run in the high 70's at sand mountain but I assure you they have been modified big time. ok back to your regularly scheduled program
