OFC - I never thought of that...........Theoretically it would be fairly easy to test. A jj&a axle allows you to adjust the width by repositioning the wheel hubs. Put the bike on the dyno completely extended out, make about 3 passes starting at a constant operating temp, then run the wheels in closer to the carrier. Get the motor back to the same start temp and do three more passes and compare the averages.

In reality though I bet a dyno is too rough of an instrument to guage any difference..........

I'd like to hear your theory on this.

Thank you nut

I have an experiment going myself.. Do you perhaps have any evedence about the distance the tires are from the carrier? Do you think width of the axle plays a part in the spin up?

Sure does,

How does the distance from the carrier to the tires effect rotating mass, Scott?

Ron, I think you could use the dyno, couldn't you just measure the time it takes to do a roll on from 2000 RPM till it hits the RPM that peak TQ occurs? Then move the wheels in and see if there's a difference? You could do the same test to see the difference a lighter axle and hubs make as well.

You're going faster because your tires are holding air now
