Outty 800 top speed 70 MPH--Why?
I've been told there is no break in cycle built into the system. I asked the service tech and he said no, there is one built into the Ski Doo Renegade(I think thats the sled) but he said not the Outlander. I have however read on a few foums there is one. Regardless, if there is one and its set at 69-70 then it doesn't/didn't work on mine, I felt no decrease in power over 70 MPH.
Try adding a little air to your tires. Mine came with too much air in them, when I adjusted the air I noticed a bit of a difference in the power delivery.
What brand and octane of gas are you running? I wouldn't run over 89 and I'd stick with a hight quality gas like Chevron, Texaco, Unocal(76) Shell.
If you oiled your air filter the oil can drip into the air box and interfere with the EFI sensors which need to be cleaned by your service technician, carb cleaner or solvents won't work. Check your airbox for excess oil.
When all else fails just take it in for service, if there is a problem they should find it.

your outty has a built in break in cycle in the computer, you will get a 5% increase after 10hrs and then another 15% after 20-25 hrs. this is your problem.

I took it up to over 70 with just a few hours on the machine and was still pulling, nothing kicked in, if this were the case everyone here would be mentioning it and this is the first I've read of this kind of problem. I dunno, if I'm running @ 80% now I'm not even sure I wanna know what its like at full power. I think what I'm getting now is about what I'm going to get.

As far as I have been able to find out the breakin program is only on the 2 smoke sleds and not on any quads.
That kick down , or cutting out deal should not be there. It should clear 70 mph easy. I took mine up to 77mph on a long strech of blacktop, the same week I got it back in October 05'. Thats what the speedo said anyway. It pulled my 800 twin peaks from 65mph on. The twin peaks topps out at 73mph where the stock clutching is at its limit. The Outy just pulled away.

I have both 2006 800xt with 8hrs onit and a 2007 800xt with 11hrs on it. I run side by side on the 2006 with my son on the 2007 30mph on to 75mph. I am 50lbs heaver than him so I lay low on the tank with just enough of me catching wind to see over the speedo pod. If I sit up I will loose 4mph in wind drag. I see no measerable differance in power between 8hrs and 11hrs. I get no top end serging on either machine they just even out at about 75mph.
I do get tire hop though from the tires not being ballanced. Does anybody no if slime will ballance the tires?

Slime in a radial, will likely make it impossable to ever ballance . We slimed a couple of raptors we had back in 2001, not thinking anyhing about the new radial tires , that they were equiped with oem . Both machines were no longer ridable over 40 mph. Till we both paid through the nose to get all the tires dismounted and cleaned out. All was good once we took it out. I would only slime the tires you no longer plan on running high speeds with.

my new 06 800xt has the same issue 68-70 mph and thats it. when she went for the first check up my dealer called brp and they checked a few things and said give it time well that did nothing for the speed other than 71-72. however when it hit 19.5 hours it seemed to go a bit more. it was cold out and the dirt road i run on was perfect and she hit 75 and i ran out of room. it gets there fast but the top for a 800 is a bit lack in my opinion. i can only get it around that speed that one place so its a 10 every where else. good luck and keep us informed. is it an xt of a regular version?

I was told by a high ranking engineer at Can-Am that the reason for the top speed limiter is that they did not want their loyal customers to lose their friends because of the fact that the Outlander was so much quicker that it takes time for the others to catch up.....give it more top speed and you may want to start planning trips alone because your rides will be like that anyway....your friends will resent you and your wife will be ticked off becuse her best friend's husband she's cheating with will no longer be around.....But that was just one of the engineers that told me that, so take it for what it's worth. see this is very weird to hear that your 800's are limiting out at 70 because my 650 on flat with run a constant 73 anyday, temperature, etc. in the right weather it will run 75. all my buddys that have 800's have hit the revlimiters between 76- 81 mph. this also could be due to your altitude. that is if you are still running stock tires.
