Yes, It will bolt right up to everthing, but you may have to splice into the wiring around the magneto with the 2005 wire harness if the plastic connectors dosent match up.
The 2000 year model had a shorter oil filter.
One reason the newer model's are faster is they are lighter in weight there has been alot of chassis,swingarm,a-arm, change's over the years.

ds650s used to be heavier than the dsx is now (495) ? thats crazy heavy.
sorry for not answering your question but i am really surprised, i know there's hardly any diff between the 05s and the 06s (only 1 inch wider and 1 inch shorter swing arm i think)
