I'm in the market to buy a new quad i can't decide upon which one to get. I'm am suppose to go sign the papers to buy the DS on the 25. But then i started shopping around seen the Raptor. I like the all the features of the DS it comes factory with nerf bars, hand guards, front bumper, a-arm skid plates. Then there are some features the Raptor has that the DS does not like reverse and EFI. I just can't make my mind up and i only have a day to decide. I have rode both and the DS is a lot more comfortable. I plan on doing just simple mods like exhaust and air filter. My style of riding is mostly openfield and trail.

Another major factor in my decision is the price.
06 DS650 Baja X $4999
06 Raptor 700R $5960
Both are brand new left over models

I would appriciate anybodys input along with pros and cons of both
Also which one would you say is more reliable

 

It all depends on your size and personal preference, both are awesome machines...at 6' 8" the DS is the way for me to go...if the 700 was any bigger than a 450 I'd be riding the yamaha...I'm young and no reverse doesn't bother me too bad...I feel in love with the power of the 700 and the EFI is nice too...But for the money you save buying a DS you could buy some mods and be able to be faster than the yamaha...I've thought about this more than a few times, and I can say I'm happy I went with the DS...I hope I helped you out a little...

I have both - raptor is a nice , smaller machine and turns quicker and the power is smoother, if u want to climb vertical sanddunes , then id go that route. If you want high speed comfort, and stability with a machine that puts out similar power in a straight line , then id go the DS . I have a passion for both , but for your trail riding , the DS is definately the way to go. If u do Air filter and Muffler tip with a rejet of the carb , you will have a bike just as quick as a raptor 700 but far better stability .
If u are a very small guy the raptor might be easier to ride , but she wont be as comfortable. My mates call my Bomb a luxury lounge chair.

Reverse is only a problem if u want it to be. I have had Bombs for 7 yrs and Raptors for longer and I have never used reverse on either.

Wow.. I'm considering a 700 next year.. going to Ohio to get one.. they are 1k more here in NJ.

 

i was in the same boat last year as you. i went with raptor and i have been very happy. plus, i did not want a quad that is manufactured and assembled in mexico. just my two cents

it all depends on your size and preferences, I think there are aftermarket EFI bodies for the ds650anyway, but they are pricey.

The ds650 will be a bit cheaper than the raptor700r if you want to get nerfs for the rappy, heres a canadian price comparison

DS650-$1050-nerf bars, handguards, a-arm skidplates, body skid plates, tachometer, foot peg extensions.
Raptor-$9999-efi
for raptor:

nerfbars-300
handguards-50
a-arm skids-150
body skidplate- 200
tachometer- 100
foot peg extensions- 50

TOTAL- 750$ +/- 150$ for cheaper or better quality

That is 750$ you can put into the ds650,
-LUNEY TOONED DUAL EXHAUST, thats looks sweet, and yields an 8.5hp gain, not bad?

Go with the ds and put the money saved for mods.I love my ds alot.You dont really have to be tall to ride one hard.Im only5"9 220lbs.I really havnt needed to do any mods to mine.Just a perfect all around package with the X version.I paid 6,000.Mine an 2005 x.I bought it in 06.Still in the crate not even assembled.I was at the time going to by a outlaw for the same price.Just didnt feel right to me.My feet felt uncomfurtable on the outlaw.Just my opinion the ds.

 

Well guess what? The DS is sittin in my garage. Took it for a spin until my hands had no feeling in them from the below freezing temperatures. When the DS is called the caddy of quads that is no lie compared to the ride of my warrior. I am very pleased with my purchase $5366.54 out the door. I am sure the raptor is a great quad but i could not see the thousand dollars compared to the well equipped DS. Thanks for selling me on the DS. Also, now i can stand out because a lot people ride raptors.
