I just bought a 01 650 and it had a burnt CDI, I replaced it with another CDI off a 2000 650, It didnt run quiet right and i was told to move the clip on the needle to lower the needle. I have good throttle response but no top end it sputters when you get the RPMs up kinda like a rev limiter or lack of fuel runs great if you move through the gears. just lacks alittle on the top..... any ideas is it electical or jetting or what?
thanks for you guys help much is needed and very appriciated

I went into a ATV shop today and talked to the mechanic he told me that the CDI rev limit on the ds650 was set real low causing it to bang out it higher RPMs in order to fix the problem i should go with a MSD rev box witch bypasses the rev limit on the factory CDI or find a CDI off a Baja...? My question is..... would a big gun CDI or procom CDI do the same thing or is there rev limits low also?? the MSD box is $650 vs. $100 for big gun on Ebay........

Make sure you do your research to get the Baja CDI to work... there are a couple different configurations of the wiring harness. It will only raise your rev limit from 7700 to 7900rpm... not really worth it if you ask me. Get the Big Gun.. it raises the rev limit 1500 rpm. Stay away from the Procomm, the timing curve is too advanced at low rpm... do some searches for Procomm and you will see the issues. If you plan on any major mods in the future get the Vortex... its programable.
