Weird gas leak
you are talking about the crankcase breather tube. all crankcases must be vented to atmosphere so the piston can draw air into the case when it goes up, and air can be purged from the case when the piston travels down. the factory routes the breather hose to one of the two airbox snorkels that are stuck up under the tank cover, so that crankcase emmisions will be burned in accordance with law.
excessive oil blows out of crankcase breathers when crankcase pressure rises from worn piston rings that allow combustion to get around the piston and pressurize the crankcase. BUT the position of the breather tube hose barb on the stator cover being so low makes the DS particularly prone to coughing up oil out its breather tube, this is very very common and does not mean your motor is in need of a rebuild. Oil seeping from the breather tube is so common on DS motors that I can't figure out why the factory has not addressed it.
you need to replace the breather tube with a longer hose, go up the frame with it to a height above the motor, then loop back down with the end of it hanging just below your frame and ziptie into place. then the oil coughed up while riding will be expelled on the ground and not make a mess on your bike. its only a few tenths of an ounces and no concern to the environment. place this hose wherever you like for good looks, hide it best you can, and be certain not to make a kink in the loop - make the loop wide enough radius to not kink. if you kink it and the case can't breath, this could lead to gaskets blowing and leaking oil.

Weird gas leak
Bad news!
The oil blowing out of the crank was caused by the disintegration of the cylinder and rings due to detonation. The cylinder started coming apart in chunks and eventually the top ring broke into pieces and smashed around in there until they exited the exhaust. I thought this might be caused by the oil can filter being plugged, which I cleaned in recent oil change but my mechanic doesn't think that. He believes it was either jetted too lean or running regular gas or both. I highly doubt that, as it is my 2nd DS and I ran it the same jetting and gas as my previous one which had no problems. Another opinion I recieved from Ron Woods is that the rev limiter cutting in can cause this detonation and damage but I rarely hit the rev limiter. Any other ideas? I cannot afford to go through this again!
