crank trying to seize
I almost had this happen due to lack of oil, surprisingly mine did not, only a ROTAX BABY!!! proud of 'er, but a brand new crank is like $800, if ur dealer takes urs out and sends it to BRP and gets u a new refurbished one its like $400 i believe, or u can watch ebay and get a used crank for $200-$300. If your crank is bad i'd make sure everythin else in ur engine is ok, the next thing would prob be ur piston, what did u do to cause the problem, specifics would help those more techincal than me lol

Im loosing power at hi rpms and its cutting out real bad and tries to die. I was told to hold the engine at a hi rpm in nutral and it the pipes comming out of the block turned red then it was most likly the crank.
It still runs so I thought there might be something I could do!

I don't believe that it is your crank in this case...If your pipe is red from running your quad then you have a jetting problem(do you have any mods?)...If you quad seems to cut out I would take your carb apart and clean the jets really good and make sure everything is in good shape and spray some wd40 on the carb slide...Or it may be a few problems all in one, what color are your spark plugs that way I will know wther you are running lean or rich...Also to check is your gas cap vent which is under the plastics and you should see a mile long hose for a ventline...Replace your plugs if they are old and the only other thing I could think of is either your rectifier or cdi by hitting the rev limiter...Here are a few options which you should be able to check and see and if you can't get it to work after this get a compression check and see if you are up to par. Any ?'s let me know.

crank trying to seize
I cleaned the carb really good the other day when it started to run bad cutting out and such I noticed a drop in HP
its jetted at 165 stock jets and im in the second from top groove on the needle. Ive tried the needle in all positions and this seems to work the best. my plugs and been black a sooty, there new i just replaced them. the screen in the oil tank is clear but i did notice quite a few metal flakes in the oil today when i drained it.
I appricate you guys help just keep hitting with things and ill try them.

You will always have a few shavings in the oil. Something has happened that has either changed the jetting or the conditions have changed requiring different jetting.
Red pipes to an extent are normal for a 4 stroke. If they are overly red it would indicate a RICH condition. What happens is you have unburnt fuel escaping through the exhaust valves and combusting in the pipe. It isn't necessarily noticable except that it makes tremendous heat in the head pipe.
If this happened all at once, if it used to run fine and you haven't moved to a higher elevation recently.......the first thing I would check is your "Choke" circuit. I would be curious to see if it is working properly. I don't know if the choke on the stock carb is either On/Off or if it can get stuck in a "halfway" position......if so it could make it run rich but be hard as hell to diagnose.
Do you have access to another carb that you could jet the same and swap them out? Just a thought.....

Sometimes ur pipes will glow red with ur at a steady throttle, i've noticed it on many DS's with all kinds of jetting, next time u ride it, warm it up, then watch ur pipes (at night of course) at steady throttle, when they start to get red then hammer down on it and if it goes away your not so bad, if the red stays then yea u've got to work on somethin lol
