Hey guy's, it's been a long while since my last visit. I have come back to this forum because you guys have never lead me astray. Here's my dilemma; I love my DS but I desperately want something new and the only other choice I see now is a raptor. Now I know these are fightin' words to any proud DS owner but I find myself getting bored with my DS. Who know's how much time and money I have put into my DS, speed/power is'nt the issue. So I was wondering if you guy's could give me a little insite on the new 700's, just want to know your experiences good and bad. Once again I know this is a Bombardier/Can-am/Brp (what ever my DS is called now) forum but I can't stand to even read the Yamaha forum, let alone post something on there and expect an honest answer. Thanks guys and yes I am keeping the DS she is just going on the back burner for while.

The 700R is a great quad. Buy a good set of triple rate front shocks and put a +4 swingarm on it and it will ride as good as a DS in most applications.

I own 3 700R's and I can't say enough good about them....

I think so. I don't own them but I rode one with a set and they were an improvement over the basic ones. I would save the money by not getting the SE and buy a set of triple rate Elka's through modquad, I think they are selling them right now for about $350. Their swingarms are a deal to. Ask them about those.

If the SE had more power I could understand paying more for it. Now in 2006, the yellow and black SE was worth it to me but that is just a personal preference, lol.......which doesn't mean much.

Good luck!

Figured I would respond. Been a while since I've helped people on this forum, but since I'm not talking about a particular builder of build..... well, here it goes.

I've been on an SE and several standards. Both are nice, but I think the SE's are pretty trick. The SE that I'm refering to is the Orange and Black with Carbon hood. Not sure if it's really Carbon fiber (prob not), but boy is it pertttttyyyyy. Compared to the DS there are several things to draw your attention to. I should mention that unless I had money to burn, I wouldn't go with the SE. The color is unreal, but the shocks aren't all that.....

If you are a big guy like myself, you'll pamper yourself all day IN the DS. You really sit in the DS and it becomes a part of you. The 700 is something you sit on top up of, but it's probably the closest thing to a DS with the exception of the KFX700.

If you like the way the DS handles in the dunes or the open desert, the 700 will feel VERY darty and a little skittish. However, compared to the 660, the 700 is WAY more stable in feel.

The motor is strong and the injection is spot on. I mean to tell you that the 700's fuel injection is probably some of the nicest electronics I've ever had the pleasure of using.

Fit and finish is typical Japanese. If you like that feel, then you'll love the bike. If you like the tank/heavy feel of the DS, it will take you a while to get use to it.

Gear ratios seem to be real nice, but the EFI lets you be even more out of a gear and have it usable.

Contral in the air is a little better than the DS, but not as good as the TRX450r, or the YFZ. Then again, I'm not a real jumper.

Woods riding is far superior than the DS. The same things that make the 700 kind of sqirty in the desert or dunes makes it that much better in the tight stuff.

If you like open desert riding and point/shoot dune riding, then the DS is the ONLY way to fly. I still haven't had anything other than my DS be able to hang in the open desert. Not sure you can get a better open desert bike.

All in all, the 700 is probably one of the best over-all platforms in the open bike business. Is the motor as strong or reliable as the might ROTAX? No, I don't think it's close. Can you make as much power reliably? NO, I don't think so. It is lighter by quite a bit and those benifits alone are worth a serious look. Personally, I think that the new offering from Yamy kind of shuts the door on all the other Big/open boys in the business. It's that good. Not to mention the fact that there are about 100 companies selling things for these beasts. Motor and chassis mods are about a dime a dozen compared to what we have for the DS. You can make just about as much power cheaper with the Yamy. That's the curse of the DS. Can Am needs to step up and produce a replacement for something that is a little long in the tooth. Don't get me wrong, if I were wanting to hill race something right now, I'd race a DS with an ultra light frame and extremities. We've got people coming at us from all sides to de-thrown the might DS from Stock Bore all the way to Duner and up to KOTH. You wouldn't believe how much money they are throwing at the 700 to make it beat us by a HALF of a bike length. We're talking a 20 - 25K quad..... But at least they have options... know what I mean. And... yes, I've got the second fastest duner in the nation right now and you got it, a 700 have beat me every time. That's where the $$$$ come it.

Long story short...

I agree with NUT

Thanks guy's

DSnut-I am really diggin the look of the black/orange SE so maybe I will just Ebay the piggys and buy the Elka's you mentioned.

Bigdaddy331- I am a bigger guy like most DS riders (6'3" 260). You are right it feels like you sit on top of the 700. I don't think there will be another sport quad as comfortable as the DS, then again I have never rode a KFX they look pretty plush. I just have to have a clutch so the KFX is not an option.

I live in the northwest corner of New Mexico, granted it is desert here, but if you stray from the sand washes things can get a little tight on the DS.

Sorry one more question-If the only mods I do to it are full pipe and filter will I need to adjust the efi with some kind of module. THANKS

Yes you will. All the modded 700's that I've rode all had EFI mods via a controller. I believe that your fuel ratios will suffer with the additional flow potential.

Now that I think of it, there was a modded 700 that was having a grounding problem with the controller (nothing more than a bad lead). What would happen is that it would lose it's spec and revert to stock parameters. The stock parameters with the intake and exhaust changes were not good. Ridable, but not good. The replacement box was night and day.

Fine running machines.

I agree with everything that has been said about the 700R. LTE's, K&N, power commander is a very good combo for performance and looks trick as well.
