11.5:1 gap settings and placement

Default 11.5:1 gap settings and placement

Need to know the current train of thought on what the gap setting should be and where to place the gaps in the grooves.
I'm about to install a JE 11.5:1 piston and need to clear some things up prior to. I've studied the past threads and it seems the opinion changes, or progresses through time and I want to see where we stand today.
Here's my understanding as to the order of the rings. Thick ring with dot goes in the first groove with the bevel down and the dot up. Second thick ring goes in secong groove with the bevel up. Third groove gets the two thin rings, one on either side of the oil ring. Please correct me if any of that is wrong.

Now for the fun part. That gives us a total of five rings, so looking down on the cylinder with the exhaust ports facing you, where do you place all of these gaps? And what are the gap settings per todays theories? Hopefully the opinions don't vary widely but I know a lot more people are running high comp pistons than were even two years ago.
I'm all ears...

Seems to me you don't have the paperwork that came with a new piston. Only one way to go....call JE and get CORRECT info direct from the source. Remember, JE recommends gap PER INCH OF BORE. .018,Dots up, !st & 2nd. ring,oil rings min. of .015!!!

.018 could be to tight for his application....ace, do it right and call. Remember, JE rings are file fit....take your time and do it right.

Okay, here's the deal. Just talked to JE and RWR both. I purchased this piston from another forum member, had a few hours on it. Not many. CP piston in a JE box with a new set of Hastings rings, with which the instruction sheet is very sketchy to someone who hasn't done this before.
JE stated .004 per inch of bore.
Elliott at RonWoods stated .020 for the DS, and since it's a Woods (CP) piston I'll go with that. May be the same as JE recommends but I'm no math wiz and have to tend to other things.
10 and 2 for the gap placement on the rings, 6 and 12 on the oil ring spacers.


Too cheap? I'm not cheap, just budget concious! Or tight azz as my boss lady would say.
