Default Outty800 Excessive noise in rear end

So the last few times i have ridden the outty i have noticed the rear end is sorta Howling when on the throttle or off. if you kinda hold it in the coast position no noise. It was bad enough sunday morning I put it up on blocks and ran it to isolate the noise. definatly comming from the rearend. Checked the oil and its pretty stinky but still full. and don't look like it has been contaminated. i really don't remember the rearend bein that loud so im thinkin there has to be sompin up. Is this sompin that would be a warrenty issue? as its commin up on 1 year...

Thats the plan. tell em its their problem.. im just kinda wonderin what the heck the problem could be. maybe a tooth missin on the ring gear? or maybe a bearing is out somehwhere in the rear diff. it has a bunch. there is a lil slop in axles. Like play in the axles. or you can hold the one tire and rotate the other a lil bit. its just wierd. makes a guy nervous drivin it round not knowin what it is. doesnt seem to hinder the performance any.

Based on what you are describing I bet it is getting hot. Differential oil is always stinky, lol........but it is REHEHEHEALLY stinky when it is burned from a bearing that is going to pot.

Have you noticed a decrease in power when it starts humming?

Nope. no decrease in power. It rides completely normal. Like i said when you get to a balance point like relieve the tension from the gear it makes no noise when your on the throttle or off the throttle you get the noise.

As for stinky when i cracked the plug i could start to smell it. well i pulled the plug. it was rank..

Just take it i guess and let the dealer check it.

Its in the shop..

I have heard rumor from a friend in the industry that the 05-06 rearends were standard threads on the input gear shaft or whatever its called.. so when its in drive it can back the threads out and loosen the gear making it chatter against the ring gear. the 07's and later are rumored to be a reverse threaded doohicky to prevent this. Dunno what they are gonna do for the fix. but asked them to replace the rearend and seat and come up with a fix for the seat melting as that shoulnd't happen. weeeeee.

So the dealer took the rearend apart and indeed it was the pinion shaft bolt doohicky had backed out. they tighted it back up but it had worn the gears and is still makin noise.. So an updated 07 rearend will be goin in. No outty to ride this weekend
