problems solved...kinda?!?!

Boy do I feel like an idiot!!! Figured out what the sputtering was. I didn't even think to check the gas...yeah, it was almost empty. I only ran about 1 1/2 hrs. on the tank, so it didn't even cross my mind. But anyway, that problem is solved.
Now, the battery problem, a little different. Checked the battery while the DS was running. It only register 8.5 - 8.6 bolts at idle. Then went down to around 7.9 or 8.0 at 3,000 rpms. The guy that was doing it told me that if the volts were high then it would definitly be the rectifier. But, since they are low it could possibly be the stator. So, i bought a voltmeter and will be checking the wires all the way back to the stator or actually all the way back to the harness under the rear of the gas tank if necc.. Do you guys/girls have any suggestions for me? I hate to admit it, but I have never used a volt/multimeter before, so I am not exactly sure what the hellck I am doing, but it can't be to complicated.?.?.?.?. Can it?
Let me hear something ASAP.....PLEASE!
Thanks,
B

Well first off I would like to know ifyour battery is new or not because the ds is pretty much no good without a good battery...If you are looking for a quality battery go with the Odyssey battery...Also if you are checking the rectifier I belive you can disconnect the wires in the harness to figure out which of your components are bad...The rectifiers are known to go bad, but if you have a bad battery to begin with then I would say that is your problem...Does the ds start at all or what is it doing exactly? and can you pop start her if you can't get it started and is she cranking over at all?

yeah, battery is brand new! well, 2 weeks old. I mean it only has like 2 total hrs. of run time on it. So it has to be something behind it. I am pretty confident that it is the rectifier. but I will know for sure in a few minutes.............to be continued
