bad starter culprits
#1
anyone know what could be the reasons, possible reasons, for my starter to keep going on me? At least i think its the starter, still getting that grinding noise when i hit the start button, and sometimes no noise at all, has a brand new battery, the starter cylinoid is good, voltage regulater is good, no blown fuses, cleaned my connections and my ground up better from the powdercoat

ok scratch that, my starter is fine. My mech and i looked at 'er today, we've come to the conclusion that its 1 of 2 or both things - starter cylinoid is making a grinding sound, he put one of those meters on it and didnt get any good reading, the starter reads fine, but my ground reads a lil higher than normal, so im gonna clean up my ground again. Now when i took the bike down to him i wanted to show him that griding noise and when i turned it on she fired right up lol, go figure! then after i shut 'er off it wouldnt start again, hes wondering if my starter drive is bad, which is the other possible problem. Now when i drove 'er home i tryed it again and she fired right up, took 'er for my first test drive since the project and she ran good, everything works good. He gave me a lil test he wants me to try next time i try to start it and no go, determine what the starting problem is, the starter drive or the cyliniod...

Try taking the solenoid out of the loop. All the solenoid does is let the power from the battery go to the starter. If the starter will spin every time you try this then the solenoid may be bad or your solenoid in not grounded properly. You did say you powdercoated recently.

Yea i did do some powdercoat, sanded down my grounds twice!! made sure they were real good lol. Well since i ran it for the first time now it fires every time i hit the starter, my mech said that the starter drive and the clutch were conected somehow with gears or w/e, im wonderin if my drive was just locked up and gettin a spin, and now that i've actually ran the machine and used the new clutch i recently had put in if it all got syncrinized becuase it is def good to go! good news is both my starters r good and my starter cyclinoids lol, now if my blackline AC Pro Pegs would get here to i can attach my last piece to this project i'll be 100% done!!! Thanx bud, the DS im parting out had the pro pegs on it, construction seemed good. I did install a new AC swingarm skid plate and the mounting was crap! it wouldnt fit right cause it was hittin my brake rotor and i just noticed that my chain is scraping it up, so i gotta pound it down to let my chain flow freely, not to happy with AC
