The stock battery is a gel type. Odyssey pc535 is what you want. Don't let them give you a fluid type of battery they won't last.

All of these are good points, but I would still look at two things first. Did the weather change between it running really well and not at all? If it did, can you remember how it changed? If not, I would check your floats. I just had that exact same thing happen to my carb last month. I am guessing mine is the floats, as I can tell I am draining the float bowl......

Look at the simple things. Does the battery go dead? If so check all conections and wires look for broken wires from the rectifier back to the right side engine case where the wires go to the stator. You can have a bad cdi "ace is back " had a bad one last year at ds days and it killed his brand new battery. Does it sound like it runs out of fuel on rev up if so check for fuel coming out of the tank .the tank does have a screen in it . to check you must remove the on of petcock. next check the float needle and seat. does the bike run good when it is cold and runs poorly when warmed up? then it could be a bad cdi Does it run good on a charged up battery and starts runing poorly as the battery discharges? then you could have a bad rectifier one bad thing is there is no testing of a cdi or the reftifier
