Default DS dilemma

Hi,

I have a 2002 650 Baja, and it's been giving me trouble.

It was rode minimally, then put away for a time in storage. We recently tried to start it back up, and it does run, however, it only runs when you are holding the starter button. It will run with it engaged, but as soon as you let off it dies. The battery doesn't last long either.

We just took the battery to a local shop, where is was diagnosed as bad. But I'm skeptical as to whether this is the only problem. It's similar to when an alternator goes out in a car. But if that were the case, wouldn't it run with the button off, until the battery died? Running off the battery in other words... Could it be that the charging system is bad? Has anyone had a problem like this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

These machines run on the battery even when new, but it does sound like the battery is dead. Does it rev up when started? install a new batt and tell us if it will run.

Should be getting a battery sometime this week, so we'll see what happens then. All the time we worked on it the battery WAS bad, I just didn't think that would cause it to not run period.

Anyway, I'll keep you updated.

Well that's good to know. I was afraid it would be something more serious... Yet it still could be though.

So a DS won't run without a battery like other wheelers?

Problem solved!

The new battery definitely fixed it. However the tach isn't working, lol. It's just kinda doing its own thing right now.
