I think you have to evaluate not what you could sell your DS for, but what it would cost to make the LTR do what your DS can do and where you ride.
My DS is similar to your build, and at Sand Mt. NV an LTR with pipe, filter and Cherry Bomb with a 150Lbs rider will not keep up with my DS and my 215Lbs butt. By careful garage thread and E-Bay usage I'm into my build for less than a new LTR would cost.
In the dirt where I ride most of the time an LTR would be a better match, but I still prefer the feel of my DS. I relate it to the old big block vs small block V8 argument, I always like the big block.

I agree with Sandman on that.
If you strictly look at it as a financial decision, a 2001 DS is about a $3000 to $3,500 bike. That Z450 is probably around $5,000.
But. . . if you aren't going to be happy with the riding style of it. . . you may have gainsd some money in value but, you aren't happy with your ride.
Your call.
I made the switch earlier this year from my DS650 (Pami 760) to a Raptor 700.
I miss some of the brute power but, the nimbleness of the Raptor is a lotta fun. Nice having a lighter bike and reverse.
I do like the looks of the new bike too. Something nice about having a new bike.
