traxter 500 compression and lifter ???
I picked up a 2003 traxter 500. It had new a new piston/rings from a dealer and still dint have any compression. I brought it to a guy and he said the exhaust valve wasnt opening. He then messed with the lifer and put it back together. It then ran for about 5 mins and lost compression. Leave it sit over night and it starts for about 15 seconds and then no compression. Bought a new lifter and had him install it. Started right up and ran great for 5 mins then it quit running and again no compression. Any idea what is causing this lifter to build to much pressure and not allow the valve to open right? We have no idea what to try next. thanks for any help.

I'm one of maybe two or three people on this forum that have a Traxter.
The first thing I would do is a leakdown to be 100% sure what is happening and where it is leaking.
I can't think of any reason why the valve would hang open unless it is galling in the guide.
What did the dealer say about the no compression. If they did it, they should have answers.

When there is no compression I would then do the leakdown to find out where the leak is.
Then I would pull a rocker cover off and dial indicate a valve to see what is going on. This will tell you a lot.
When you say the mechanic had no clue what do you mean? Did he say, I put your quad back together and not it dosen't run..........oh, by the way, here is your bill!!! LOL
Let me know what you find out.

I bought it from this guy that had it in the dealer. They put new piston and rings in and still no compression. They told him that it may be a cam and they would need to pull the motor and split it. But couldnt be sure, so the guy said he wasnt going to take the chance and sold it to me first for $500. Now I just have to fix it. thanks for the help.

yep I would have to say that your cam is bad. We had one in the shop that kepy blown the carb off that's what BRP said was wrong. Cann't blam that other tech for saying I have no clue. Those motors are a pain in the *** to remove and disasemble.
By the way you may find other things wrong when you get in there. Like the starter clutch bolts backed out and wrecked the stator.
