Default a good setup for the ds

hey silverbomb. I took my quad last night to my friends mechanic. yesterday, when i started my quad, i ran it around the block and it ran fine but then it bogged a little, so i thought, ok, maybe it was nothing. I decided to run over to my friends house and the ds was running perfect. by the way, I was driving pretty slow. halfway to my friends house i decided to speed up and when i was in fifth gear it bogged down completetly, it didnt turn off, but when i throttled it it would. So i let it sit for a few seconds then i ran for a minute or two and then it did it again, so i let it sit again and when i started it this time it ran well through all the gears and at top speed too. The thing is that when we took it to the mechanic it did it again. I left it there and hes gonna fix it. I was just wondering if you guys had any idea what it was.

I guess i typed to much just to ask that question huh?

Oh and about the carb. Iasked the mechanic and he told me that the hv46 was the best way to go. Which cdi do you reccomend?

I agree with the 46hv being the best for you, and I would recommend the Big Gun CDI if you want a good inexpensive one, and an adjustable Vortex if you want the best and spend a lot more money. Before you spend too much money trying to fix the stock carb just buy the new one from Mr. Horsepower or look for a used Mr. Horsepower version in the Garage thread or ebay. Good luck and have fun! If you want to visit Mr. Horsepower go Here

Hey..
The next time it does the bog down thing, try loosining the gas cap, sounds like you have a gas tank venting problem.

I had the gas problem thing at the dunes last year. I ended up loosening the fuel cap and putting duct tape to hold it. When I finally took the tank cover off I found the vent hose had slipped between the tank and the frame. That vent hose is about 2 feet long and wrapped around the tank almost 2 times. I suspect it wouldn't hurt to cut it down a bit.

thanks a lot. ill keep you posted to see how the ds is doing. i have it with a mech. right now because he is giving it a full tune-up. my carburetor is messed up, so right now i am using a carburetor i stole from my friends totalled ds. im going to order a carb from mr. horsepower either today or tommorow, and in the meantime, i told the mech. to port the intake and he said he would send the ???? to get ported and polished. didnt really hear or understand what it was but my friend told me it would help my ds. i guess if its worth $400 to do it, it should at least do something good for the quad.

I live in a southern city in texas, and i cant wait to get my quad running so i can take it to mexico. ive heard that there are a lot of quads over there. they all hang out at the beach and drag there. i dont know if its true but im still gonna go check it out with some of my friends. the main reason why we wanna go over there is because here at South Padre Island, which is our beach here, and the only sand dune close by, they dont let you drive quads anymore. the good thing in mexico is that you can drive them on the street or highway and they dont tell you anything. one of my friends has several quads, and he said they would go to all the nearby cities in mexico and that they would get a lot of attention form girls an that there was no problems with the cops. i have been thinking of geting a two-stroke because everyone that has them here say they are easy maintenance and you get a lot of power with very little mods. for example, a friend has three honda 250rs, a 350 powervalve, a 310 stroker, and a 250 with little mods, and those litlle bikes haul a$$. they also have a banshee that hit 12s in the quarter mile, a reg 350 they are starting to fix,and a stock quadzilla. I know 12s aint a lot because there are some guys from a nearby town that beat him like by 6 lenghts in their banshees. i pretty sure you guys have seen faster but those banshees are some of the fastest ive seen here in the lower valley. there aint to many places to ride here where i live but we make the most of it. were a pretty big group and we were thinking that sometime in the near future we wanted to go to glamis or to some other place just to have some fun.

Damn your DS should haul the mail after the carb, intake, and port and polish. I'm jealos. And don't get a 2 stroke! They are fun but they are also high maintenance.
