Brake Failure 2008 Can-Am Outlander 800
So.......... I pay $10,000 for a Can-Am 800 and when I ride it the first time the brakes malfunction and the belt is squealing. We rode about 20 miles up this mountain road, then on the way back down to the truck the brakes are doing this vibrating, squawking noise that is echoing throughout the forest. It was so loud my buddy could hear it 200 feet behind me. What's up with that? He said it sounded like I was trying to put it into reverse or something.
Another issue I had is it sounds like the belt squeals at low speeds just creeping along. Has anyone else had these problems. Should I file a Lemon Law Suit?

Doesn't sound like anything I have seen on all theCanAm forums. Were you riding the brake? That has happened before to some. There is enough power that you can go along with your foot on the rear brake without knowing it. The belt issue is different. Did you go through any water? I think you may need a trip to the Dealer.

well.. your not the first person to bring up brake noise. in fact most people complain that the brakes are loud on the outlander. especially if you get them wet. I know mine are, and have been that way since day one. It really dosn;t bother me, as I seldom use them anyways but I can see how it might bother you. you could always change the pads. I hear that has helped for many people. obviously I can;t say for sure without hearing yours, but if they make a sound that is like cross between a high pitched wine and a griding sound, then that is completly normal for the outty. espeically if it is wet. mine comes and goes. probably will change the pads at the end of this season.
as for the belt. mine whistles a little, always has. again I don;t personally find it to be an issue. I actually kind of like the combination of the belt whistle and the rotax growl. gives a unique "machine" sound if you ask me.

The brake are clean.
for the noise in summer, you juste need water on disk and its like ABS system with grinder noise.
in winter, you just need 3 or 4 inch of powder snow and 1 time of 3 you lose 100% of the brake power, to have power you have to pump the brake, you loose many second and if you are near a road, you life are in danger.
For the issue in winter, it begin at 300km, so fresh new from the dealer and in one of my first ride.
BRP client-care ? You may call at Sherbrooke, main office of BRP, but, nothing, he laught of me.
I'm about to begin with group procedure VS BRP.

I don't ride the brakes.....sheeeeeesh. Why do people say "It's normal" when something doesn't work right such as in this case? Just because many of this model has the problem doesn't mean it's normal and we should accept it. What should be said is "Yes, this is a defect in this product the factory should recall and fix it" Sorry if I sound short here, but after spending a wad of money on supposedly the best ATV out there and finding out it has so many defects, it pisses me off more than a little.

Well the best is Relative to the user.
Since it is new ,Schedule a appointment with the dealer and have them address the issues. Yes it is a pain on a new purchase but it happens and you drew the right Number I guess.
Sorry for your troubles.

Comeback here please with what your dealer say to you.
Sorry for my english.
On my side, the dealer say to me " BRP have no idea of what to do " So I call 1-877-469-7433 BRP main office and they say to me " Call your dealer " and the Dealer repeat " BRP have no idea of wath to do " etc........blablablabbblllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Client Care at BRP don't send call Back, juste incoming call, no info, no possibility to talk to mecano.
I talk to Tania and word to word she tell me " My job is to say to you, to call your dealer " Tell her that the flywhell électronic grommet don't work on the 6 cylinder engine of your ATV and she will say to you, " ohhhhh, sorry, call your dealer, he will repair for you".
BRP have the badest client care I never see.
An other time, sorry for my english. I just want to find the answer I need to resolve this big problem and help other Outlander owner in the same case of me.
