Can-AM 400 Max
i have an '05 sportsman 500, for utility i've always gone polaris, the 4x4 is what stands it apart from the rest, i hate front differentials, mine is very smooth, comfortable, but its a lil big so tough in tight trails, i usually end up runnin stuff over to make my own way so its monster-like body comes in handy haha, it doesnt have the speed like the other utilities but it has the low end to pull anything

We are new to buying ATV's. We are currently looking to but a 2008 Can-Am 400 Max or the Polaris 500 Touring. We can gte both for basically same price. Does anyone have any experience with both or either to help in our decision?
Thanks,</end quote></div>
I believe the build quality from can-am is outstanding and would go with the 400 Max!

Can-AM 400 Max
i have only riden the 400 can am max. the wife and i have put on just under 2000 miles since may 1st. the ride is outstanding ,enough power to get us around on the trails and keep up with the group we ride with (500,650 and 800 can ams).
the only problem i have had is a rattle in the speedo. that i had to fix myself dealer couldnt figure it out and told me i had to live with it.
at some point you will want more power and there realy is no after market stuff for them. all that i can recommend is to ride them all and make your choice.
hope this helps

The 400 CA and 500 Polaris will perform near the same but the 400 will get better mpg.
Polaris has 6 month warranty.Does CanAm still have the 3 year warranty?
Polaris has alum wheels and full built in skid plate that the CA do not.
The Polaris 500 T lists for more than the CA 400.
The Polaris 500 T would be a better deal.
What can you get the Max 400 XT for?? It may be a better deal if less than $500.

Can-AM 400 Max
I actually can get the Polaris 500 for a little less. The dealership here is running a deal on them. I am also getting a plow with it.
When riding them they both felt fast enough for what we need. Its a tough decision but it seems that maybe because they are both good machines.
From what you are saying and all my responses maybe the Polaris is a better deal.

Can-AM 400 Max
I just recently looked at the 400 Max XT vs 500 Touring. In the end we went with the 500 Touring. This quad is for my wife and daughter. I liked the 400 Max better over over the 500 touring, but that could be me being just a little biased towards the Can-Am...LOL! Power and everything seemed pretty even. I will give the ride/comfort edge to the Touring. This is what also sold the wife and daughter on the 500 Touring. They liked the feel and seating of the 500 Touring and didn't think the ride was as hard as the 400 Max. I also like the Polaris 4wd system over the Can Am Visco-Lok. Lastly, Polaris gave a MUCH better deal!
