05 DS650 Battary issues anyone else?

CHRIS YOU HAVE ELIMINATED THE GROUND PROBLEMS.NOW LETS CHECK THE PLUG TO THE REGULATOR MAKE SURE ITS CLEAN AND PLUGED IN PROPERLY.IM GOING OUTSIDE TO TAKE SOME TEST AND ILL GIVE YOU THE REGULATOR SPEC'S FOR A STOCK REGULATOR.GIVE ME A MINUTE.

i unplugged the regulator and lookd in the plug looks ok..it plugs in ok...the auctual reg gets so hot i cant even touch it..is that normal?

YOU ARE RIGHT THAT IS YOUR REGULATOR.NOW IT SHOLUD GET WARM WHILE THE BIKE IS RUNNING BUT NOT HOT. TO TEST THE REGULATOR UNPLUG IT FROM THE STATOR THEN TAKE A DIGITAL VOLT METER PUT IT ON OHMS SETTING. NOW TOUCH BOTH PROBS TOGETHER YOU SHOULD HEAR A SLIGHT HUMMING SOUND.IF NOT MOVE YOUR SELECTOR ON METER TO THE OHM SETTING WITH THE PICTURE OF THE SPEAKER THEN TRY AGAIN.ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR METER SET UP TEST THE REGULATOR BY PUTTING ONE OF YOUR PROBS ANY ONE OF THE THREE YELLOW WIRES AND THEN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PROBE ON EITHER OF THE TWO YELLOW WIRES NOW CONTINUE DOING THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE ROTATED BOTH PROBES THREW ALL THREE WIRES IN 9 DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS.AT NO TIME SHOULD THE ALARMS GO OFF IF IT DOSE THE THE REGULATOR IS BAD.THEN DO THE SAME WITH THE STATOR SIDE OF THE PLUG IT SHOULD WORK JUST THE OPPISSET THE ALARM SHOULD GO OFF EVERY TIME IF IT DOSENT THEN YOUR STATOR IS OPEN AND THATS YOUR PROBLEM.I DID FOR GET TO TELL YOU ONCE YOU UNPLUG THE REGULATOR CHECK THE RED WIRE ON THE FEMALE SIDE OF THE PLUG(SIDE COMING FROM THE ENGINE.PUT THE NEG PROBE CABLE IN THE BLACK SLOT AND THE POSSITIVE OR RED IN THE RED SIDE YOU SHOULD HAVE SYSTEM VOLTAGE AT THAT PONIT WITH THE KEY SWITCH ON AND ING ON IF YOU DO THE SIGNAL SIDE OF THE SYSTEM IS WORKING IF NOT WE HAVE A NEW DIRECTION TO GO IN.I WILL BE LEAVING FOR CALIF. THIS EVENING SO I WON'T BE ON THE SITE FOR A DAY OR TWO BUT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO REACH ME BY PHONE.

OUR NEXT STEP AFTER YOU HAVE TESTED THE REG AND STATOR WILL BE TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A EXCESSIVE DRAW SOMEWHERE YOU SHOULD DO THAT BY HOOKING YOUR METER UP TO THE BATTERY AND SEE WHAT YOUR VOLTAGE IS NOW UNPLUG EVERYTHING HEAD LIGHTS TAIL LIGHT FAN COOLANT FAN AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT DOSE NOT MAKE THE BIKE RUN THEN START THE BIKE SEE IF IT CHARGES AT THIS PONIT IF IT DOSE WHILE THE BIKE IS RUNNING START PLUGGING EVERY THING BACK IN AS SOON AS YOU SEE A SHARP VOLTAGE DROP THATS YOUR PROBLEM.EXCESSIVE AMP DRAW IS A LONG SHOT ON A STOCK CLASS BIKE BUT I HAVE SEEN IT WITH A BAD FAN RELAY OR BAD ARMATURE IN THE COOLANT FAN OR BAD CONTACTS IN THE HEAD LIGHTS BUT NORMALY THE LIGHT BULBS WILL BLOW FIRST. I am really looking forward to a happy ending for Chirochris. Azsand, it is really cool of you to go through this effort. This thread has given me a new appreciation of what it takes to diagnose an electrical problem. I am starting to see the logic you are using to solve an issue like this, and it makes sense.

wow..i dont think i can do this..i dont have the proper tools...digital volt reader and have no idea what all these plugs and stuff are and located....how does a round trip tickets to new york for a wkend sound..anyone?..im over my head this time....
just a side note...i have had my aux lights blow out before when i first got it back in 04...

A CHEAP DIGIAL VPLT METER IS ONLY 60-7O BUCKS @LOWES OR HOME DEPOT AND THEN YOU CALL ME WE CAN SET UP A TIME AND ILL WALK YOU THREW IT ON THE PHONE IT WILL NOT TAKE AS LONG AS IT SOUNDS. IF I HAD THE BIKE HERE I WILL GUARENTY IT WOULD BE RESOLVED IN 1 HOUR THIS IS A VERY SMALL SYSTEM.AND WERE OH SO CLOSE BUDDY !!!!
