What's the best years?Highest cc bore you can get safely? How do they handle?Good for the trails? What should I look for if I was to buy one?Stock Horsepower?Any inherent issues they never got around to fixing?
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

For a trail quad I think the newest one you can get would be the best in the X model. Highest Bore I've seen is 730 but with a stroker crank goes up to 870. They handle ruff terrain very well for a sport quad. Some people love them for the trails but I don't do a lot of trail riding so I couldn't tell you much there. Stock HP is about 41. Pretty much on 05' and up they had all bugs worked out. Good luck, add any more ???'s if you got em.

Same thing, it's called the Baja X from 03 or 04 on up. Awesome machines that are bullet proof if you take care of them.

I think the diffrence is baja dont have all the add ons such as nerf bars arm guards not sure on this as the x does. i went on a trip a couple days ago followed dad around in trails and loved it. if i was to do all over in 05 i wouldve got the ds over my 450r.

Not at all, especially when they're stock or near stock. You can honestly run them into the ground and they take a beating. If you keep all of the fluids topped off and changed when they need it the DS's will run forever, 10 times longer than any 450! For example the it's not uncommon for a BMW bike that run the same motor as the DS to go 40,000+ miles without a rebuild. Great reliable motors. My buddies always tell me that my DS looks like it was built to last through a Nuclear war. LOL.

Is the weight a disadvantage?

It depends on where you're riding. If you're riding the Dunes, you want as little weight as possible. That's why I have lightened mine up so much. But for trails and such you won't mind it at all.
