Guys and gals,
I have been searching the forum but it looks like everything I am pulling up is old.
So here is my situation.
I have an 03' Ds650 that the top end is fading on pretty fast. I think its time to rebuild.
Actually I know its time to rebuild.
I got my *** handed to me this weekend by just about every 450 and Raptor on the line. On top of that a 250R that hasnt had a rebuild in about 5 years put it to me.

I know there used to be a guy on here named Eric (Mr. Horsepower) that everyone sweared by but I havent seen much about him lately.
Is he still around and is he still the one to go to for these engines?

If I do decide to build it myself, I will need suggestions on where to get the parts. I would be looking to change the cams (thinking about Web), have the head ported and possibly going to a 720 on the bore.

I see that J.E. has a 720 kit for sale. Does anyone have experience with this kit? Is it any good, Reliable and will it add much to the power of this bike?

I know this is a lot of questions for one post but I really need to freshen this thing up. I used to love the way it ran but now its just a dog.

Do a compression test just to make sure it needs rebuilding. There could be lots of things making it slow.

 

Can I just do a regular compression test on it or does it have to be a leakdown test?
I have an oldschool tester but I dont think it works on todays stuff.
