Default DS 650 Throttle

I have a 00 DS650 with the ron woods kit with the tr45 carb and the throttle is soooo stiff. I went to the dunes and it's horrible I need something to make it looser it makes it horrible to ride. What do most people do? I can't get the lesser spring because I have the accelerator pump. I thought about a thumb throttle but I don't know if i'll like that? Any ideas please?
Thanks

By not liking a thumb throttle are you implying that yours is a twist? The vast majority of us that have the TM45/48 use the stock thumb throttle. You get used to it after a while but if it's still bothersome to the point of not enjoying riding then you can always do what another majority of us have done and send your carb to Hightower. He has some mojo that really lightens up the tension but still renders both sides of the springs fully functional. I will say that I've not seen him on here in quite a long time. He may have moved on.
A quick search on this forum will show that this has been covered numerous times.

Sorry I meant to say I was thinking about a twist throttle not a thumb throttle that is what I have now. How does he do it can I trim the spring at all?

No, you don't trim it, or them I should say. He has it down to an exact science but you have to untwist the pump spring to make it less stiff and twist the slide spring to make it stiffer. I have done several after I had sent him a couple and they turned out real close to his perfected system. The trick is to have the slide spring stiff enough that when you turn the carb upside down that the slide stays closed. It's a trial and error thing that you could do yourself and just test until you have it comfortable for you.

What dunes were you riding in? I know our dune season ended two months and won't be able to go back out until October, when it gets below 100 again. You guys that can ride in the summer have it made. Of course while your iced and snowed in we're cruising Glamis and Dumont in the 70's...

I ordered complete new sets of springs from RWR. One to play with to try and get it right without having to send them across country, and a couple more incase I effed them up.

I'll be rolling into Utah for DS Days here in a couple of months. We'll leave with the temps in the 110's and get to Little Sahara with it in the 80's and all of the locals complaining how HOT it is!LOL You should join the party. Lots of DS's and lots more good times and friends.

I bought the Ron Woods throttle return spring for the TM45. After fudging up my accel pump return spring trying to level things out (don't cut it!), I bought a very light stainless spring from a local hardware store and made my own. The throttle tension is almost equal to the stock carb now and feels shaaaweeeet! I also installed the Terry Cable "Dual-Gasser" throttle assembly so I would have both twist and thumb throttle if needed.
